First of all, it’s an honour to be here today, and I’m pleased to have the opportunity to tell you all about the problems, we have been dealing with, here in Tesco, and how we’re planning to solve them in the nearest future.
As many of you probably know, we have had 12 rough months, with a dramatically fall on 20% of our stock values.

Let’s start with the customers experience inside the shop.
Unfortunately we haven’t been able to respond correctly to the compounded customer stream, which have caused that many of our shelves have been empty, when you have visited our shops.
We have also experienced that our customers having troubles with finding an employee, if they had any sort of questions. That’s not what we had in mind, that you, as the customer, have to run across the entire shop to find someone that could help you, with your problems.

When we heard about the test scores from the ‘secret shoppers’, that we were being placed at 99th out of 101 different stores, we knew that something had to be done, and it had to be done in a hurry.
Therefore, we have acted quickly, and hired additionally 8000 people to join the staff, around the shops, so you no longer have to run through the shop, to get the help that you need, and on top of that, we want to raise the amount of carrier bags, so you won’t struggle with finding one, when you go shopping.
At the same time, we have chosen to create a better feeling, inside the shop for the customer, resulting in we have redesigned our shops, with some softer colours, making the shopping experience a lot more comfortable.

Nowadays, everyone is very comfortable with the Internet, and shopping online, which is why we have taken the opportunity to focus on optimizing the non-food part of our brand, on the Internet.
It’s more beneficially for our customers to shop online, regarding the non-food stuff, because you can get a better deal online, compared to your shops around towns, and we can all agree, that we all love to save some money, right?

We have also focused a lot on the risk of investing in Tesco, and with our new strategy, you will probably see a lower level of growth of Tesco, and investments, so we will be able to, in the future, to have a lot higher returns on our investments, which is very important for us at the moment, with the bad 12 previous months we have experienced.
Unfortunately, our customers have experienced that our brand quality have slipped, and we have forgotten to keep up with our standards, which have caused our major drop on our stock.

With the location of many of the Tesco shops, especially in the central part of London, we have to focus on the fresh food and the deli, because a lot of employees, from firms close to Tesco’s shops, are coming by to get their lunch, and they want something delicious and fresh to eat, and that’s what were are going to focus on, to give the customers the warmer feeling in the stores, and giving them a reason to keep coming back, for more.
Speaking of giving customers a reason to come back, we have improved our ‘everyday value’ brand, to satisfy the customers, and giving them a new experience of what Tesco has to offer.
We have chosen new and better ingredients among our entire ‘everyday value’ brand, and we hope that our customers are appreciating it, and can see and taste it.

In 2007 we launched our new international business, ‘Fresh & Easy’, which we unfortunately launched on the worst possible time, and at the same time, we committed at few rookie mistakes, that we easy could have avoided, causing the sore point for all of our investors.
But during the last period of time, we are beginning to see the light, at the end of the tunnel, and we are about to limit the losses the ‘Fresh & Easy’ have given us, and were trying to make the stores profitable, before we start to expand further around the world, because, abandoning ‘Fresh & Easy’ is not an option, why we are determined that this can be a success, and we will get there, it is just a question of time.
