Tesla - the Father of Modern Technology
"Let the future tell the truth, and evaluate each one according to his work and accomplishments. The present is theirs, the future, for which I have really worked, is mine."
Nikola Tesla

The Father of Modern Technology

It is difficult to imagine how today’s world would be without Nikola Tesla, the inventor who revolutionized the modern technology. His inventions touch our life on a daily basis and yet the majority of people don’t now anything about him. To be more specific, every time we switch the light , watch the TV, use a laptop , a computer or a cell phone we should thank Tesla for his creations. This brilliant scientist invented the alternative current, wireless transmission, radio, X-rays , neon and many other things totaling 700 patents. His greatest dream was to obtain and deliver free energy for everybody and he proved that this is possible and, if helped, he would have materialized his dream. Nikola Tesla was born in Smijlan, Croatia in 1856. He had an extraordinary memory and spoke six languages: Serbo-Croatian, Latin, Italian, French, German, and English. He spent four years at the Polytechnic Institute at Graz studying math, physics, and mechanics. During this period of time he became fascinated by electricity, a branch of physics that was still in its infancy. Tesla came to United States in 1884 and started to work for Edison. At that time Thomas Edison had problems with his DC (direct current) system, which contained many bugs. Being aware of Tesla’s great mind, Edison promised him 50,000 dollars (the equivalent of one million dollars in today’s money) for fixing the system. Nikola took the challenge and after hard and exhausting work managed to get the bugs out and thus saved Edison over $100,000. Thomas refused to keep his promise and Tesla quit not long after that. From that point, Edison tried to discredit Tesla whenever it was possible. Besides the aforementioned reason of their separation is the fact that Nikola had a different

His father, Milutin Tesla was a Serbian Orthodox Priest and his mother enjoyed great fame throughout the countryside for her skill and originality in needlework, and doubtless transmitted her ingenuity to Nikola; though it naturally took another and more masculine direction. Tesla was educated at the Realschule, Karlstadt in 1873, the Polytechnic Institute in Graz, Austria and the University of Prague. From the start, he proposed to represent considerable authority in material science and math. He started his profession as an electrical designer with a phone organization in Budapest in 1881. With a stick, he attracted a chart the sand demonstrating to his companion the standard of the affectation engine. When set to America, Tesla joined Continental Edison Company in Paris where he composed dynamos.…

Thomas Edison was born February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He was the youngest member of his family. Growing up in a modest household, Edison’s early years were focused more on education than monetary gain. Edison was educated almost solely by his mother and himself. He ended all types of public education at the age of twelve. It is difficult to grasp the enormity of his innate intelligence when one learns how little formal education Edison had. His scientific career can be said to have started at the Grand Trunk Railroad. It was here that he first became interested in the telegraph. For six years, Edison roamed the country working in various telegraph offices. It was 1868, which was near the end of his tenure in the telegraph office, that Edison first attempted to create a new invention. Like so many inventors who have changed the world, Edison was unsuccessful at his first attempt to bring a new product to light. He attempted to invent a vote recorder, but could never achieve success. However, this did nothing to dampen Edison’s quest in the world of invention.…

Tesla also grew up with a dream of working with electricity, and he started his career by working for Edison himself. He eventually branched off to create a rival business, working against Edison with his own designs. A few of his patented inventions include the basic design for a radio transmitter, wireless telegraphy, the Tesla coil, the remote control, and alternating current (Vujovic). These patents alone should qualify Tesla for a reasonable spot on The Atlantic’s top…

Nikola Tesla was a Serbian born American citizen who changed the face of electrical current as we know it. He was an inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist. Tesla was a person well ahead of his time and he paid dearly for it. Tesla’s achievements and his ability as a showman demonstrating his seemingly miraculous inventions made him world famous but later became the archetypal “mad scientist”. Tesla’s later works were surrounded in controversy and brought him to his knees as a recluse living in a room of the New Yorker Hotel. Tesla died in 1943 penniless and in debt leaving a legacy that will never be forgotten.…

Thomas Alva Edison was one of the most prominent American inventors of the 20th century. He was born in 1847 in Ohio and worked several different jobs during his early life. In 1968, while working at Western Union Company, Thomas Edison designed an electronic vote recorder for recording vote faster in legislature, which went unsuccessful with the Massachusetts Legislature. In 1869, he invented the Universal Stock Printer, which synchronized several stock tickers' transactions, and sold the rights to Gold and Stock Telegraph Company for 40,000 dollars. After establishing his company, he went on to further improve the telegraph industry; one of the invention was a quadruplex telegraph that can send two signals in two directions on the same wire. In 1876 the now successful businessman and inventor expanded his operation to Menlo Park, and by the end of 1877, he created a sound recording device called phonograph.…
