However, there are several causes of poor sexual education that can be remedied. Causing the problem, abstinent only curriculum and lack of regulation is the most prominent causes of poor sex education. The lack of regulation among the public school system is jaw dropping. The National Conference of State Legislatures website says that only 19 states have to have their curriculum medically factually. So, that means in the other states a teacher can teach that sex is not real or that if a teenage has sex he or she could fail the SATs and ACTs. Under Texas’ law, HIV and AIDS are the only items that need to be medically factually. Texas there by has the right to teach its high schools having sex makes teenagers blind (State). Abstinent is another leading cause in poor sexual education. Teaching abstinent as a method is perfectly fine, but when that is the only theory taught it does not affect the teenagers in the state. The State of Texas has the 3rd highest unwanted pregnancy rate in the country. Also, Texas has the 3rd highest rate of HIV in the country. These problems stem from that fact that education in schools in not teaching the teenagers the best and safest ways to practices sex. Abstinence education is the biggest component to the problem, because it doesn’t teach what to do if this happens or how it could have been prevented at the beginning. problem? More importantly, the problem in Texas does have a solution. The solution to this problem of poor sexual education can be easily solved both in the schools and through policy making. To reiterate, the problem in Texas public schools is that there is poor sex education in the school systems. Now, there are two main solutions to this problem. One is to adopted comprehensive education curriculum in the schools. These curriculum helped students realize what are the proper step in protecting themselves against STIs and unwanted pregnancy. Comprehensive education curriculum has been put in place for example in New Hampshire. Because of New Hampshire curriculum it is 1st in lowest in unwanted teen pregnancy rates. This is proof that this type of curriculum has benefit that can in prove Texas life. On the other hand, the other possible solution is to run legislation in state court is regulating the way curriculum can be taught in a classroom. Public schools in Texas need to have their curriculum based on medical fact and not have it be based of the biased opinions of a teacher. But, until a solution is put in place Texas will continue to remain one of the highest in teen pregnancy. Sex education is not a minor problem in our society, because the lessons that were not taught in high school could carry with student into adulthood. We are responsible to promote the general welfare of not only us, but also others in our country. Texas has the recourse and the ability to fix the education in its public schools. Teachers and state politician have now heard these solutions, now they can help us implement these solutions.
