Students are expected to be above reproach in scholastic activities. Students who violate University rules on scholastic dishonesty are subject to disciplinary penalties, including the possibility of failure in the course and dismissal from the University. According to The Regents' Rules and Regulations, Part One, Chapter VI, Section 3, Subsection 3.2, Subdivision 3.22, "Scholastic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, collusion, the submission for credit of any work or materials that are attributable in whole or in part to another person, taking an exam for another person, and act designed to give unfair advantage to a student or the attempt to commit such acts." Since scholastic dishonesty harms the individual, all students, and the integrity of the University, policies on scholastic dishonesty will be strictly enforced. For instance, if the student has been caught before or if the student was knowingly plagiarizing are just a couple of factors involved. However, plagiarism, no matter the circumstances, is a serious violation against the Honor Code. It is not to be treated lightly but is not to be treated so severely. My ideal effective and education sanction for a plagiarism would start off with a letter of apology to the professor and a talk with Dean Beach or another Hollins staff member who the student can hear about academic integrity. If the circumstances are more unfavorable, then I would consider stricter sanctions but for this question I am assuming this is not the…

From a lack of available parking spaces, to poorly managed dining services, the university has no shortage of problems that need to be solved. One problem in particular that deserves immediate attention is the issue of the Honors College. Being enrolled in the Jesup Scott Honors College is a prestigious honor and is a well-respected program; however, there are issues within the Honors College that make it difficult for the wide-eyed, ambitious freshmen to graduate as honors students. A major dilemma that works against students is the seemingly endless list of requirements to graduate with honors. Students are expected to complete 33 semester hours of honors courses, in addition to completing a capstone thesis and enroll in upper-level interdisciplinary seminars. These requirements may even be more strict for students in different majors/colleges. Another problem, is the lack of incentives for students to remain in the Honors College. While the thought of graduating with a medallion around one’s neck and more knowledge than most may seem enticing to some, most students need something extra to encourage them to stay in the program. Finally, an issue that impacts the majority of honors students is the lack of…
plagiarizing daily, Shahs believes there is a solution to the problem According to the author plague will continue until proper changes are made by instructors, students, and administrators. Shahs argues “instructors should improve how they teach academic honesty, administrators should revise and publicize policies treating academic misconduct, and students should value ethics over grades,” (Lamm & Everett, 2007, “Chapter 6 Student Essay. An academic honor code or honor system is a set of rules or ethical principles governing a community based on ideals that define what constitutes honorable behavior within that community. Since this is my hometown I have a great deal of pride for this area and look to enrich…
In the wake of numerous cheating scandals, such as those at the University of Virginia and Harvard, many people have began to question the effectiveness of honor codes (sources C, D). Honor codes can be defined as a set of rules implemented in a school that are based around morals that define both acceptable and unacceptable behaviors. While many feel as though such guidelines are necessary in maintaining a schools’ dignity, others believe that honor codes are impossible to enforce. Honor codes should not be enforced because they are too harsh, unrealistic, and put innocent students in uncomfortable social situations.…

I am very honored to have this chance in National Junior Honor Society. I have always wanted to be a member since I heard about it, which was 5th grade. Last year, in 6th grade, I saw myself being up there this year. I feel I have all of the qualities to have this privilege.…
The four characteristics of National Honor Society are service, scholarship, character and leadership. It is important to have a good character, maintain high grades, volunteer and lead. The reason why it is so important is because I am a role model. Other people look up to me to be a good example. I have expressed being a good role model in my life. Whether it is when I am with my younger sisters, babysitting other people’s kids, at track meets, or JROTC I am sure to be a good example and represent my family, school, and country. Personality traits are different characteristics that define a person. Everyone has their own personality. There are some traits that are shared between different people. Some traits may not be morally great and…
My school has a somewhat kind of developed honor system. It can be a little stricter. The overall idea of an honor system is a great concept. Kids that work hard get cheated on by other students. Kids can report cheaters without having their name be brought up.…
