Students should have their own choice in what he or she reads as a class regarding the standards that are required. Being heard as a student is one of the most essential things an individual needs. They need someone that will not restrict their ideas, but welcome them with open arms. Allowing the students to choose also gives him or her willingness to read the book! Not only that, but it will help them keep on reading as an adult. Granted that some may argue that students are mature and aren’t dependent on teachers, the teachers are an essential part of their future and are seen as role models for everyone. Students affect each other the most, whether positively or negatively because no matter what another student says or does it will affect them. So even if their book wasn’t chosen, they will have a higher chance of reading it because their fellow classmates thought it would be a good book to read. If the student’s book is chosen, then it will make them want to learn more about it and be further informed in it. Since he or she chose the book, it most likely means they want to learn, discuss, and hear everyone else's thoughts on the book. Even if someone could counter the idea of students reading more in their future by saying that some don’t care about their grades at all, it would be better if we let them choose because the student will realize that reading can be enjoyable. They will feel more comfortable with reading because it’s a book that they chose. It will also have them feel more warmed up to the idea of reading in general because the book relates more to them. This will be fun for the students and help them take time to read later in life. Those who never actually learned to enjoy reading will learn to feel more comfortable with
