One hashtag that went viral was “ItCanWait,” this then gave people awareness of the issue of texting and driving. A website was created for it where people can share their pledge to not text and drive (“Distracted Driving,” n.d). This is putting a some reinforcement on the people who pledge because its a way of them commiting to something and standing up for something they believe.
Lastly we have a very common intervention that is used a lot in trying to motivate people, this is the video of the effects of texting and driving. These videos usually contain a storyline, it begins with a happy person who receives a text or call. It the proceeds to show them taking their eyes of the road or picking up the phone and within a

For example, Siri will read the text out loud, the screen will not turn on but you can tell siri what to text back. She will read your text back to you and confirm that its correct. This eliminates the need to look at your phone at all, since your voice is the command. This will still of course be a minor distraction, but your eyes are on the road the whole time instead of constantly on your phone. There will of course be videos advertised, but these videos wont be used to discourage the drivers about texting and driving but instead in helping them adapt this new safer habit. Videos will contain ways to place the phone and examples of it being in use. One common way will be by using a phone holder that sticks to your windshield. Videos will also teach about the most effective spots to place your phone. Of course there will also be videos comparing the old texting and driving habits vs this new and improved voice command

I wonder if anyone ever stops to think that taking their attention away from the road is a bad thing. It was taught in Driver’s Ed to always keep your eyes on the road and just how do you suppose you’ll do that if you’re enthralled by the world’s latest technology? The National Safety Council estimates that drivers using their cell phones and texting cause at least 1.6 million car crashes and 2,600 deaths each year. That is at least one million people injured and 2,000 families devastated and stricken with grief just because someone couldn’t wait until they got home to answer a stupid text message. Just think about how you could be the cause of someone’s death, their hysterical parents, and their distraught family members because you felt that your friends’ message had to be answered right away.…

I have seen countless public service announcements on texting and driving in my lifetime but by using such a strong visual that grasped my attention from beginning to end, Jerry Stoner was able to deliver the message that “Cell phones and driving don’t mix. Ever,” very effectively. The PSA Distracted Driving Commercial uses pathos through their visual of a phone with a fuse connected to it and logos by using many facts before the phone bursts, by utilizing rhetorical appeals this commercial was able to convey the message that the producers were trying to send. This commercial makes the viewer see that texting and driving is an epidemic and that in order to change that everyone needs to stop doing it.…

Using your cell phone while driving can lead to lack of focus on the road, especially among young drivers who are not as experienced as their adult counterparts. Driving takes an extreme amount of concentration, due to the many things that could happen on the road. From cars slamming on brakes in front of you, to people cutting in and out of traffic, you need to have your undivided…
