For my practical production I choose to design and create 5 pages of a magazine including a front cover, an advert, a contents page, an article and a horoscope page. These 5 conventions formed to make part of a magazine that would be used to complete my practical production. This task intrigued me as I have a genuine interest in reading magazines myself, and the idea of creating and editing my own appealed to me more. I decided to pursue this task by myself as this shows originality and independence. I also thought that working independently would encourage me to come up with and develop my own ideas.
I also included a contents page that contained information that was included in my magazine, although I only made 5

My production represents a certain stereotype that in my case is woman that are interested in fashion and beauty, my magazine doesn’t fit the needs for a social group in particular it can suit the needs of many. The age range of my target audience would be around ages 15- 22, as this magazine is aimed mostly at younger females. Mainly unmarried and working class woman as it contains fashion and styles that wouldn’t be budgeted at people with a poor financial background. There are a lot of magazines within the market that are being produced for the same target audience as me, as fashion and monthly gossip are ideal factors to contain within this type of magazine. Most younger woman and teenagers have a desire or passion for these things, which is why this type of magazine is so popular on the market. Therefore it’s hard to produce a magazine that stands out and has its own brand identity amongst a lot of others of the same genre. However my magazines main focus in o n different trends and styles within fashion, as well as those key ingredients for a typical girly magazine such as horoscopes, adverts and gossip. Consumers would be able to purchase my magazine from local shops and newsagents, also online and they can even subscribe to my magazine from its website, to receive …show more content…

The ideas that are included in my final production were a productive and appealing front cover, which engaged my target audience’s attention. Also during my research I discovered that the front cover of a magazine helps to establish what genre category the magazine falls into. Therefore the front cover is important as it’s the producer’s way of attracting its audience and encouraging people to buy this magazine. The techniques that are used to attract people are simple but effective of most magazine front covers. The images I used on my front cover and my magazine are aspirational and they reflect my audience by them being an item of clothing or a beauty product. There is also an image of a famous woman (Katie Price) on the front cover of my magazine this also shows that the audience have an interest in celebrity gossip and happenings. The layout of my magazine also reflects the audience’s

In David Carr’s essay, “On Covers of Many Magazines, a Full Racial Palette is Still Rare,” the author states his opinion/analysis of the magazine industry and the, small amount of diversity that is involved with it at this time, but he believes that it could be on the rise. In this essay Carr takes his opinion, explains it, and also supports it with many statistics and quotes from people involved in the industry. He supports his argument with many rhetorical devices and successfully proves his point.…

For my research investigation I intend to explore to what extent specific media products use similar representations of women to appeal to their target audiences. The examples I have chosen to focus on are the iconic, international women’s fashion and lifestyle magazine ‘Cosmopolitan’ and Lynx’s controversial ‘beach campaign’. I will therefore be exploring what similarities and differences they embed due to their oppositional target audiences and content. Throughout my research the main theory I will be linking to my texts is that of Laura Mulvey, her theory explores ideas of sexism and male gaze within the media industry.…

In a positive view of social media, I plan to analyze the make up company Covergirl’s newest model who is making headlines for being the first Covergirl model to be a boy. The selection of the model, James Charles, as the newest model for the company brings up the question of traditional gender boundaries in fashion and beauty. In addition, it provides a role model for men who prefer to explore outside of these gender boundaries, and in so promoting their own self-image and acceptance. Furthermore supporting the facts that while there are some negative effects of social media, it can be used as a tool to help us grow as a society.…

Intended for the enjoyment of the present-day youth generation, the 2007 comedy film Knocked Up deals with more than just comedic issues. Technically introduced as a romantic comedy, this film serves more to its comedic orientation. With awkward romance and stoner mannerisms, the laughs are plentiful for the intentional audience of Knocked Up. However, as the audience is served its fill of laughter, issues are presented that rarely grace the silver screen. The director of this film, Judd Apatow, utilizes his dominion and influence over the audience to introduce the dominant ideology of Knocked Up. As seen in his previous film, The 40 Year Old Virgin, it is evident that the good guy can get the girl and in doing so may come along some unexpected complications. Apatow’s use of comedy in this media context to present such complications leads the audience to conclude that they too should adapt to his alternative approach to unplanned pregnancies in this present day.…

GQ's cover always appealing. The look of the text, the length and size of it counts towards making the magazine look good. The text on the cover is short, easy to read and to the point as well as being very dominant. This lures readers into buying the magazine because since the information is bold and to the point the cover gives the facts to the reader in a fast and easy way to make the temptation of buying the magazine greater but if it was a small sized text, with lots of information that carries on and on then the reader would lose interest and not bother to read let alone buy the magazine.…

By stating the various ways in which teens pursue their fashion and how the industries target certain groups and ultimately how they want to fit in. While returning to the introduction’s hook in the conclusion is a frequently-used strategy, the authors throughout the article start slow by giving us an image in which to picture and feel, then they give info and quotes on how the industry targets certain groups and or body types. they then flow into how teens feel about fashion and even their own fashion by doing this she implies that young teens should not care about fashion but of their own happiness. Returning to their quotes and facts, the authors make their appeal to ethos, pathos, and logos which help establish their article firmly. The magazine articles the author tells us about help show how they target and ultimately persuade which we all have seen, and the quotes from professionals help shine light on the authors purpose of the article which is that happiness is key to a young females life and that the cultural standards are not what matter but…

In this essay I will hope to analyse the semiotic codes of the front covers of teenage magazines to demonstrate how the media constructs the image and behavioural ideology of the teenage girl. I will analyse issue 359 of More! (December 27 th 2001 - January 8th 2002) and compare it with the January 2002 edition of 19. I have chosen these specific texts as they are popular mainstream magazines that are available in most newsagents, and therefore arguably represent to the reader what constitutes the modern teenage girl. These are also the most recent issues available for analysis and therefore demonstrate an up-to-date representation of constructed femininity in our media and society.…
