Rodger had no idea who he was messing with. In the story, “Thank You, Ma’am”, by Langston Hughes, Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones is tough. Mrs. Jones is tough because she is controlling over what Roger does,and she gets physical with Roger.

First of all, Mrs. Jones is tough because she is commanding. She tells Roger what to do. For example, She told him to ”pick up my pocketbook boy, and give it here.” This proves that Mrs. Jones is very tough. She ordered Roger to do something. She was powerful enough to make him do it. Then, she brought him to her house and made him wash his face before he ate. She wouldn’t take him anywhere with his face so dirty. Mrs. Jones said,” Not with that face, I would not take you nowhere.” This means that,
