That Hideous Strength Character Analysis
In the world, there is a constant battle between good and evil. It is a choice that all men and women have to make at some point in life. This is demonstrated in “That Hideous Strength,” as the main characters, Mark and Jane, are in a state of dissatisfaction and must simultaneously make a decision. Jane is displayed as choosing the good side. However, the choice was not always easy and sometimes frightening. As truth of the world was revealed to her, she had to learn to trust the gift she had been given and use it to draw closer to the good. At the same time, Mark chooses a different path. As he chooses evil, he falls victim and swiftly reaches a desperate point of no escape. Mark may not have realized it at first, but it did not take long

Feeling sorry for someone, but not agreeing with them. As humans we have all felt this feeling at least once in our lifetime. In the book The Awakening, by “Kate Chopin” Kate Chopin sympathizes with the main character Edna but doesn’t pity her. I agree with Kate, because even though she’s married with Leonce a man that she doesn't love and has children with him, she is still free not attached to him at all. Another reason I agree with Kate is that she doesn’t pity Edna. She spends time and loves Robert rather than loving her own husband.…

This book review is on Strengths Finder 2.0. Written by Tom Rath, this book follows and elaborates on Donald Clifton's Strength Finder assessment created in 1998. Strength Finder 2.0 looks to dispel the outdated belief that only weaknesses need to be improved upon. The textbook Psychology Applied to Work describes this concept as positive psychology, "The aim of positive psychology is to shift the emphasis away from what is wrong with people to what is right with people" (Muchinsky & Culberson, pg. 384, 2016). With that premise on its head, Strengths Finder 2.0 looks to first identify the strengths of others and directs them to improve on what they already do so well. Even though the text can be applied practically, the book really focuses…

She loves him way too much, and because of that, she forgets to love herself. Everything she does is in hopes of grabbing his attention. Her lack love towards herself shows when she says, “I wanted to hear him tell me that what we had was special, that I was special, and not merely some mousy girl.” (p.191). Jane’s love towards Lucky takes over and puts all her attention on him, in doing so; it blinds her from respecting herself. Jane’s much needed "acceptance" from Lucky causes her to be vulnerable, and become easily manipulated by Lucky, as she says, "I despised myself for letting my crush on Lucky make me so vulnerable." (p.163). Jane knows about how vulnerable she is to Lucky, but she chooses not to act upon in because of her love for Lucky. Jane is indeed a strong girl (p.228), but with her love for him dominates her mind, and making her forget to love…

Everyone needs a guiding light in the distance to show the way, but occasionally that light disappears. For some, that light is faith, family, or friends but once they are gone it comes down to personal choices, even if they have to be made blindly. Similar choices are seen in Elie Wiesel’s Night, JD Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, and John Knowles A Separate Peace. Elie, Holden, and Gene have to make decisions about their lives and how they are going to live them. The choices offered to them, however, are not always win or lose. The line separating good and bad, right and wrong, and love and hate is changing from black and white to gray. The decision between compassion for others and self-preservation…

Good vs. evil is a classic theme often found in literature. Both authors use their main characters as a comparison of what being good means, however the evil of the story is presented differently.…

Hypothetically, I am applying at local police after completing the police academy. One friend of mine from college actually work for the same department. However, she decided not to mention the fact that we were arrested for marijuana our freshman year, reason being is that the charges were dropped because the search the officers ducted was illegal. She also advised me that the department does not conduct polygraph as part of the hiring process. I now have the decision to either lie on the form or tell the truth about the incident. I know if that if I lie eventually I will be found out, but I believe that the long-ago arrest will never become known.
