While some of her friends have passed away or gone on to nursing homes, she continues to maintain an independent, high functioning lifestyle. However, she knows a time will come when she is not going to be able to continue to live the way she has been living. She described those in her age cohort as varying tremendously in function as they all proceeded into late adulthood. As the research attests, for those in late adulthood, age is not a true indicator of functioning. Research has confirmed that, the better that older people function, the younger older people they feel. Function and development are directly correlated with one another. Thus, it is important to assess the indicators that aid or hinder development in late adulthood. These areas of interest and concern lie in cognitive and physical functioning, ability to have a sense of autonomy, access to social support and economic provisions…

As nurses it is essential to use appropriate tools to assess individuals, families, and communities. Throughout this paper the writer used The Gordon’s 11 Functional Health Patterns as a guide to assess a family. This family included a mother, a father, one son, four daughters, and two grandsons. The writer developed two to three open minded, family focused questions for each of the 11 functional health patterns. In this paper the writer summarizes the findings of each functional health patterns of the family, and identifies three wellness nursing diagnoses based on the family assessment.…

1/1 why it is important to recognise and respect an individual’s heritage. It is important because it is someone’s past life history. Each individual is different and special their heritage contains their life experiences and culture and makes them who they are. It helps us to give a person centred approach because of the way of life as they know it and it has been this way for a long time, they are happy and comfortable with it so why try and change it.…

Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451 was published in 1953 and carries a heavy message that holds true in today’s society. Happiness requires sacrifice. In the novel, Guy Montag is living a good generic life that’s surface deep. Yet Montag is looking for more or perhaps just something else. Bradbury uses Clarisse as a key character that further cracks Montag’s safe world. He thinks he’s happy yet he knows he’s been secretly hoarding books in his home. This is a dangerous game that opens up Montag’s mind to ideas and thinking in a society against such freedoms. He begins to question his happiness, “Happy! Of all the nonsense,” and suddenly acknowledges that he’s not happy (Bradbury 10). One peek in a book during a raid leads to Montag quoting “once upon a time” that results in dramatic life change all the way down to the cellular level.…

At first thought my definition of well being was simply well physically, without sickness and or pain. It wasn't until this class that I learned the true meaning of well being and that there are more indicators than just physical or health. According to Miriam Webster, "Well-Being is the state of being the state of being happy, healthy, or prosperous." MSN Encarta says "Well being is having good fortune or health.…

Happiness is coming back to be seen as a core element of health and welfare, with the rising notion that a happier person could be a healthier person and, in turn, a healthier person could be a happier person. As health has come back to be viewed in a holistic method, with each mind and body taken into consideration, happiness has been obtaining sunray into the thought of health and welfare. In “Health and Happiness,” Putnam argues that, “The more integrated we are to experience colds, heart attacks, strokes, cancer, depression, and premature death of all sorts.” Although we all might feel that we don’t need one another, being together as a community will build strength and help us in the long run.…

    The Science of Being Well

This volume is the second of a series, the first of which is The Science of Getting Rich. As that book is intended solely for those who want money, so this is for those who want health, and who want a practical guide and handbook, not a philosophical treatise. It is an instructor in the use of the universal Principle of Life, and my effort has been to explain the way in so plain and simple a fashion that the reader, though he may have given no previous study to New Thought or metaphysics, may readily follow it to perfect health. While retaining all essentials, I have carefully eliminated all non-essentials. I have used no technical, abstruse, or difficult language, and have kept the one point in view at all times. As its title asserts, the book deals with science, not speculation. The monistic theory of the universe — the theory that matter, mind, consciousness, and life are all manifestations of One Substance — is now accepted by most thinkers, and if you accept this theory, you cannot deny the logical conclusions you will find here. Best of all, the methods of thought and action prescribed have been tested by the…
