The Accuracy Of Jack Sparrow In The Pirates Of The Caribbean
In the movie series the Pirates of the Caribbean most of the information is historically accurate. Jack Sparrow is based on many pirates that would have plundered ships carrying goods through the Caribbean. The weapons used were the same kind of guns that would have been used by real pirates in the 17th and 18th centuries. Most pirates had a pirate code to keep order with the crew Jack Sparrow also had this kind of pirate code. He was more generous then most pirates because he gave everyone the same amount of money. Lastly the myths that pirates believed in at the time were incorporated. Even though they were not completely correct most of them were accurate. Although the Pirates of the Caribbean portrayed some aspects incorrectly, for the most part the movie was pretty historically accurate.

In one scene of the movie one pirate ship shot another pirate ship with cutlery. Cutlery is forks and knives shot from cannons. They also use round shots during boat against boat fights. Round shots are naval artillery used to the human lives and damage ships. They are shot from cannons and make a hole in the wood that send sharp pieces flying that could impale you. In the movie the pirates use swords and cutlasses while fighting in close combat. Both are sharp metal blades that real pirates used to fight just like in the movie. The ships in the movies have flags just like real pirates. Flags are symbols of piracy that usually show intimidation. Overall the weaponry used in the films is very similar to real pirate

The most dangerous and fearsome pirate that I know about the most is Blackbeard the Pirate. Blackbeard’s presumed name was Edward Teach, but some believe that it was only an alias to protect his family back home. His cognomen, Blackbeard, was derived from his thick black beard and fearsome appearance. Blackbeard was a shrewd and calculating leader. He avoided the use of force, relying instead on his fearsome image to elicit the response he desired from those he robbed.…

Blackbeard had a lot of tricks that he used in his pirating. He tried to attack during dawn or dusk so that the pirate ship could not be easily seen in the dim light. Blackbeard also would figure out the nationality of the ship and then fly that nation’s flag before attacking. The targeted ship would then believe that Blackbeard’s ship was friendly and wouldn’t be nervous when they got closer. Then, Blackbeard would fly his own flag at the last second, not giving their target enough time to realize the trouble and prepare. These tricks and many others that Blackbeard used made it very difficult for ships to know if they could trust each other or not.…

For example in Moby Dick it states, “...expecting the whale to come toward the smaller boat where Ahab is waiting with a harpoon.” This shows that Moby Dick is more of a fictional story due to the use of weaponry because a harpoon is portrayed as a fictional weapon. Another difference between Moby Dick and Blackfish is that in Moby Dick they went to get revenge on a whale before there was a death that had occurred as opposed to Blackfish where they went to get another whale after a death occurred. For example in Moby Dick it says how the captain had only lost a leg before they went to get revenge but in Blackfish they had lost a life from a whale before they went to get another whale. These are the differences between Moby Dick and…

Blackbeard was not the big bad pirate that he is thought to be. Most people think that he was the most fearsome and dangerous pirate that has ever lived, which in most ways he was. However, he made up stories and stretched the truth to make him self look much tougher than he really was. In the early 1700’s Edward Teach earned his place in pirating history, acquiring the name Blackbeard because of his large black beard that almost covered his entire face. Blackbeard terrorized the coastal settlements of Virginia and the Carolinas around 1717 mostly taking valuables, rum, and weapons from his victims.…

The Pirates of the Caribbean film series is one of the most popular film series to run its course through theaters in recent years. Action, adventure, and romance are some of the things we come to expect when we sit down to watch these amazing film adventures. But one of the things we can rely on most is the presence of Captain Jack Sparrow. While Sparrow was conceived to be only a supporting character, he proved to be popular after he was added into Disney’s theme park ride that spawned the movie series. Of course, a character as “far out” as Captain Jack had to be played by someone equally out-there: Johnny Depp. First we’ll talk about how Depp got into the role of Captain Jack and then I will analyze how Jack is portrayed as a character.…

Pirates today are very much like the pirates we had back then. They loot supplies of ships to make them rich such as oil or gasoline. They take crew members hostage and have ransoms. They do anything that will make them wealthy and benefit themselves. Such as the Somali pirates who raid ships and vessels sailing of the coast of Africa. But there are also pirates who hack…

Treasure Island is a novel written in the era of the eighteenth century. The technology was basically just being started. Back then if you wanted to sail a ship, it was wooden. In this time period pirates were very common. Robert Louis Stevenson was right on point. Treasure Planet is a Disney movie that is based on the original novel of Treasure Island. Naturally, Disney put a twist on it, instead of the characters being humans, they were animals or cyborgs. The setting was completely different, instead of being on land or water like Treasure Island, they were in outer space. The plot was majorly different. In Treasure Island there is a lot of violence, gore, and drunkenness, but since Disney produced Treasure Planet, they did a good job of keeping those scenes out of the movie. Finally, the theme differs in really just one way. It differs because, Treasure Island stresses the dangers of alcohol. Yet, again since Disney produces children's movies they leave that out of the movie. The theme is still is in harmony with the idea of the two main characters Jim Hawkins,…

The most interesting thing about Blackbeard was the type of life he led. Edward Teach was supposedly born in Bristol, England about 1680. Konstam claims that his father was a maritime sailor, which was probably the reason Teach became interested in sailing the seas. The tales that his dad brought home of pirates who sailed the seas in search of adventure and treasure, what little boy would not fantasize about these things at a young age growing up in such a great sea-faring port as Bristol (Konstam 10)? Based on research that historians have found, they have been able to surmise that his father died about 1693, when Teach was only a teenager (Konstam 15). Other than these minor things, very little is known about his early life. Angus Konstam, the author of Blackbeard: America’s Most Notorious Pirate said that trying to piece together a pirate’s childhood was like “a house of cards built on a shaky table” (1). Edward Teach made his living sailing on sloops, which were small ships. One of the captains that Teach sailed under was Captain Benjamin Hornigold, who took him under his wing and gave him command of one of his smaller ships. Not long after, Teach captured a ship that he claimed his own and equipped with forty cannons. He also renamed the ship The Queen Anne’s Revenge in honor of the queen of England.…

A key character that ensures we enjoy the film throughout is captin jack sparrow. The first time we meet jack he is portrayed as a powerful figure standing tall on top of his ship. As the scene progresses we see that he is drunk and unorganised sailing on his own on a sinking boat. The director shows us this by using a wide array of camera shots and other techniques. When we first see jack he is standing on top of his ship. Although he is standing tall and proud his clothes are weather beaten and he has clearly been at sea for a long time. The low angle camera shots that the director uses help the impression that he is powerful and strong. The director also uses an over the shoulder shot to help connect the audience to jack. The director then thatters this illusion by panning down the mast to reveal that he is on a small boat, that is quickly taking on water ,all on his own. The pirates operate in organized teams of eight or nine, this helps them divide up and take on shipping vessels in two or three different teams. As Anouk Zijlma writes; the pirates work off of so called “mother” boats. These mother boats supply intelligence to the small tactical teams as to where potential ships are located on the ocean (Zijlma). The fact that the pirates have small and fast speed boats makes it very easy for them to maneuver…

Initially, Jack Sparrow was supposed to be a comic hero, an eternal loser who is completely sure in his irresistibility. But in the preparatory process and during the work on the film Jack’s character has changed. It happened thanks to Depp. He added to the image of Jack some features characteristic of rock musicians of the late twentieth century. No one knows if the real pirates behaved like this but playing this role Depp took an example of a few rock stars. «I’m alive!»-»I’m alive!»-is the line of one of the rock song and motto of many rockers. The same can be said about Jack Sparrow. Sense of existence, diversity of the world is perhaps the key characteristics of Jack Sparrow.…
