With my better understanding of writing, I grew to hate writing and so I began to write just enough for what my teachers were requiring and what they wanted to hear, so I guess one could say that I am a scholarship boy (or girl?).
In Richard Rodriguez’, “The Achievement of Desire,” he looks back on his childhood and realizes that he was so enthralled in school that he wasted his childhood. Rodriguez wasn’t always so enthralled in school, when he was in the second grade, he didn’t see the point of going to school, but his mom made him continue to go to school even though he didn’t want to. Rodriguez’s parents made him continue his education because they never got the chance to go on to higher education like college. Over time, Rodriguez begins to grow fond of education, and develops his own theory of reading and writing.
