Based on the results, the bunchberry plant, with a scientific name of Cornus canadensis, was most frequently seen in station four, the ecotone, and second most in station five, the forest which is most likely in the lower forest since it has a similar environment to that of station four, and third most in station three, the bog. It was not as frequently seen in areas of higher elevation such as the old field. It should be noted that all three locations were very moist which is expected since they receive water from the marsh. Due to its more frequent presence in moist environments, it is predicted that the bunchberry is more adapted to such locations. It is also predicted that sandy soil supports its growth since it was mostly seen in stations four and five which have sandy soil. Within and on the soil, lots of wood could be seen on the ground from remains of trees that were around the bunchberries which lead to a possibility that as the wood remains are buried in the soil, the bunchberry plant is able to use it to build roots.…

However, these effects can vary greatly, with some species being affected greatly, and others not at all. For example, UV-B radiation can cause the skin of Gray Tree frogs to darken, and cause them to swim less. For others, like the Pacific Tree frog, this radiation can reduce larval survival and increase abnormalities in behavior and development. Other common effects include increased embryo mortality and behavioral avoidance. Interestingly, different populations of amphibian species can be differently affected by UV-B radiation as well, possibly because certain regions have more UV-B radiation than others (Blaustein). Regardless, the fact that UV-B radiation has been increasing in our atmosphere is alarming.…

In 1992, that’s when the plants’ population started to decrease because of the hurricane in Hawaii. The hurricane that took over the Cyanea Kuhihewa was Hurricane Inki. Cyanea Kuhihewa was known only from its type locality in Limahuli Valley on the island of Kauai, its habitat is threatened by feral pigs and invasive alien plants. One of the weeds that is a serious threat to Cyanea Kuhihewa is Clidemia hirta which forms a dense understory, shading out other plants and hindering plant regeneration. Rats and slugs are also a threat to Cyanea Kuhihewa and other animals of the bellflower family in Hawaii; they will eat any portion of the plant and reduced reproductive vigor due to small population size. These threats still exist in the habitat where Cyanea Kuhihewa occurred. Scientists monitor this plant for insect damage, plant diseases, and distribution in known and likely habitat. Cyanea Kuhihewa is known from only one population totaling six individuals in Limahuli Valley on Kauai. Seeds were collected for genetic storage and the species is still found in cultivation. Tissue culture of the last remaining plant known of this species is now underway at several labs. The overall threat impact on this plant is very, very high and that’s also reasons why this plant has become endangered. The Cyanea Kuhihewa is supposed to a mature berry that haven’t been…

Berry begins with the proposition that eating is an agricultural act. He points out how humans don't think of food as an agricultural product, they don't even think of themselves as participants in agriculture. He then joins in the fact that we humans think of ourselves as consumers and if not than they're passive consumers. The condition of the passive consumer of food is not a democratic condition. One reason to eat responsibly is to live free. He then moves to industrial sex and how industrial eating has become a degraded, poor, and paltry thing like sex. Many people don't think about what they're eating, most of them do not know about the farming and where there food comes from, we don't know, where the farms are, how well it has been taken care of, or what knowledge of skills are involved in farming, they just buy because they see it and it attracts their eyes. He then goes on to express how apparently these urban people have little doubt that farms will continue to produce, but they do not know how or over what obstacles. This explanation helps many understand that the things we eat can harm us because we do not pay attention to the manufacturing.…

Would you believe that there's a tree so poisonous that you don't actually have to touch it to be harmed? It's called the manchineel tree (found throughout the Florida Everglades, Central America and the Caribbean. Inhaling sawdust or smoke tree may result in a variety of uncomfortable side effects, including coughing, laryngitis and bronchitis. Some reports suggest that simply standing beneath the tree during a rainstorm and being splashed by runoff rain may result in rashes and itching. Direct contact with the manchineel tree is far more hazardous. Its milky sap can squirt from the tree when twigs are snapped off, painfully irritating the skin and eyes. Ingestion of the deceptively sweet, crabapple-like fruits is known to blister the mouth and cause the throat to swell shut, and then inflict severe gastrointestinal problems. These harmful effects result from the toxin hippomane A and B are present in every part of the tree.…

Black rats are pests and are dangerous to humans in several ways. These species are also famous for its role in spreading the dreaded bubonic plague that took billions of lives in the Middle Ages. To control them, chemical rodenticides are used but these chemicals often destroy our environment and health, and may lead to death of non-targeted organisms and even human poisoning. Dumb cane contains calcium oxalate crystals that cause the poisoning. Thus it was the concern of the study to determine whether the dumb cane stem extract is effective in killing black rats.…
