The advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad
In the 21st century, the necessity of studying abroad has become an emerging trend among the youth. However, every coin has two sides and so does going abroad to study; it has countless advantages as well as disadvantages that need to be taken into consideration. Studying abroad has great pros. To begin with, students have an amazing opportunity to have better education. When we compare our education system with that of highly developed countries, there will be a vast amount of difference in the way students are educated. Studying abroad helps us learn the newest technologies and more advanced knowledge which is a far cry from the academic knowledge that Vietnamese students are taught. Moreover, we’re given a wonderful chance to improve our language. Nothing is better than learning language with the native speakers and using what we’ve learned to talk to them. Secondly, as we’ve been equipped with valuable knowledge, we’ll have a better degree and enlarge on our job opportunities. When we apply for a job, our degree will gain us greater advantages than the others. The third pro is that students can develop social skills. We can be independent because our family won’t be around to tell us what to do and eventually, we’ll learn to take care of ourselves. In addition, we are more confident and we can make friends easily. Last but not least, studying abroad opens to us an abundant world of cultures and languages. This might be the best experience one can have in his life time and studying abroad paves way for it. On the other hand, going abroad to study has its own cons. Sometimes, if we don’t get a scholarship, studying abroad is very expensive. If we don’t know the language, there will be a huge language barrier. Thirdly, we have to adapt to a whole new environment on our own. We can easily feel lonely and homesick. If it gets worse, people will be racist because we’re Asian.
