The Advantages of a Female Prime Minister in The Bahamas. Imagine The Bahamas, landscaped with over 700 hundred breathtakingly picture- perfect islands governed, lead by a female prime minister. Yes, a smart, confident, strong, yet passionate, sensitive soul who is leading this chain of islands forward, upward, onward, and with Bahamians, together. In the past, The Bahamas and from a global perspective, the male was always portrayed as the more dominant gender. Physically? Yes. Leadership? Maybe, but the truth is historically women and men in the Bahamas were not always equal economically and socially. Over the years a common question posed was, “Can a woman someday become the prime minister of the Bahamas?”. The answer is yes! While generalizations can be dangerously fallacious, it is with no doubt that women Prime Ministers can achieve more than men. Also women have already surpassed men academically and their leadership qualities are evident by the amount of females in The Bahamas holding high positions for example The College of The Bahamas president Dr. Betsy Vogel Boze. According to an article "Bahamian Women Have Surpassed Their Male Counterparts in All Walks of Life," Bain noted that in The Bahamas, the ratio of females to males enrolled into the institution of higher education is three to one. In fact females would consistently outperform their male counterparts in national examinations. Consequently, a female would be deemed an excellent prime minister because of academic dominance, nurturing, as well as perseverance. One advantage of a female prime minister is her importunate academic dominance over men. For example, when it comes to academia, females tend to outperform their male counterparts. According to Virgil, a reporter of The Tribune, reported that The Ministry of Education results of national examinations indicated that for five consecutive years, females have dominated the national exams from B. J. C 's to B. G. C. S. E 's. These national scores of Bahamian females are more academically inclined than boys. A reason then can support female 's academic dominance over males was revealed in a study conducted by the University of Georgia and Columbia University. The researchers found that women are better learner than males. For example, women tend to be more flexible, attentive and organized. This is probably why women, in the work place, are more likely than males to better understand tasks appointed to them. Consequently, this study shows that a female prime minister would be an excellent candidate because she possesses not only academic prestige, but she is attentive, more flexible and well- organized. Moreover, women monopolize the academic world because they, more likely than men, to attend college and obtain a tertiary education. Besides of her academic dominance over men, a woman would make an excellent prime minister in The Bahamas because of her nurturing, motherly qualities. According to society, a woman 's role is to take care of the home, raise and rear her children, as well as support her spouse and help make him a better person. When her children, for example, are hurt, she is more sympathetic to their distress than the males. (AN ARTICLE). This nurturing role can be beneficial in leading the country because as a female prime minister, she can effectively take care of the needs of the people. Social ills negatively affecting the country such as escalating crime rate, violence, rampant teenage pregnancy, and the academic performance of the average pupil plummeting in a downward spiral can be adequately addressed by a female leader because of her fostering instincts. Lastly, perseverance is another advantage a female can exhibit as prime minister of The Bahamas. Throughout history women have faced numerous struggles. Among an extensive list, they have suffered inequality because of their gender. As mentioned earlier, a woman 's role, place in society was restricted to the parameters of the home. They were the ones who ensured the children were reared, food was prepared, the house taken care of. Because of their fight for equal rights, many have overcome such social impediments and now things have changed drastically. In today 's society, more women are holding considerably excellent positions in the work place, establishing their careers, while taking care of the homes. The Bahamas has been graced by many females who broke the barrier of gender discrimination. Mother Pratt, a former deputy leader of the Progressive Liberal Party, is an excellent result of women 's perseverance in our country. Despite of everything women went through over the years, Mother Pratt did not settle just as a house wife, but instead she stayed persistent towards reaching her goals. At one point Mother Pratt even served as Prime Minister of The Bahamas for a few months when The Hon. Perry Christie fell ill. Moreover, perseverance and determination is dedication, hard work, tolerance, and endurance. With these qualities, it is no doubt that a female can take on the role of a prime minister in our nation. A woman is fully capable of becoming prime minister of the Bahamas, and throughout this essay we have discussed various qualities of a woman, such as academic dominance, advanced persuasiveness and being team oriented. In addition to the qualities mentioned, women are also more empathic and flexible as well as stronger in personal skills strengthening the case of having a female as prime minister of the Bahamas.
