Those who identify as strictly democratic tend to be liberal, and inversely those who are strictly republican tend to be conservative. Evidence shows us that liberals and conservatives don’t enjoy each other. Research suggests that people who have opposing political backgrounds desire not to live near one another and disapprove of the idea that their offspring would marry someone outside of their party (Suh 2014.) Due to politics being a very popular topic of discussion, it is interesting to consider the effect political stance has on attraction, if any effect at all. Politics would have a strong influence on attraction because political stance is part of someone’s personal identity. When someone’s identity is threatened they immediately become defensive because their identity is shaped by their actions. Greene, Steven. (1999.) Knowing someone’s political stance can reveal a lot about a ones identity, which could give one insight on a persons morals and beliefs.
