The Allies Should Be Studied To President Woodrow Wilson

The Treaty of Versailles was a great mistake made by the allies after WWI because it led to the rise of Hitler, and WWI. After the war, our allies did not want to go easy on Germany, the losing country, after the war. This was due to the fact that they had been significantly more damaged by Germany during the war than we were. Germany had to pay them 33 billion dollars in reparations and also had to give away land because of the Versailles Treaty. On the other hand, Woodrow Wilson came up with his 14 pts. peace plan which showed that he wanted to uplift Germany, and make them a stronger buying and selling partner and ally, but France and Britain did not want to go with his plan. Since Germany had to pay these countries so much money they didn’t have, they went into a lot of debt, so Germany was a very poor country at the time, and Germans were not happy about it. “It is not hard to see why the Germans were outraged. Germany lost 10% of its land, all its overseas colonies, 12.5% of its population, 16% of its coal and 48% of its iron industry. There were also the humiliating terms, which made Germany accept blame for the war, limit their armed forces and pay reparations.” (The National Archives, 2022). Germans were outraged, and they wanted someone to stand up for them, and someone to fight back, so they turned to Hitler. If France and Britain had just listened to Wilson, and if they didn’t punish Germany in the first place, Hitler wouldn’t have been in power, and WWII wouldn’t have occurred. One of the most fatal mistakes could have been avoided if France and Britain had given Wilson’s 14-point plan more thought.
