This symbol refers to the bible, specifically in the book of Genesis. In the book of Genesis, the serpent dares Eve to taste the fruit, which will defy God’s will. When the devil tells Goodman to use the staff, he does so and is condemned for what he has done. Curiosity amongst Goodman is shown when he comes into the forest, as well as Eve when she eats the fruit. Another symbol in this story is Faith’s pink ribbon. The pink ribbon symbolizes purity. Ribbons are typically cute, modest decorations. Ribbons are usually found on elderly women in their hats, or on their coat flaps. When the ribbon falls from the sky, Goodman perceives it as Faith getting rid of her purity, and choosing the side of the devil. When Goodman returns back to the village, he sees Faith wearing the ribbons again. This may show that Faith has revolted back into her stage of innocence, but it is very unconvincing for Goodman to
