The American Frontier
The idea of the West still lingers on throughout the world as a time filled with tough people who win over misfortune to overpower a harsh land; this period of time is very well-known in American history. In movies, novels, television stories of the west are still being repeated, rebuilt, and reiterated to lessen the events; “Native American myths and stereotypes are undergoing revision”(Saltta,R.W., 2010). The interesting thing about the Indians and the American frontier is the fact that history and myths go hand in hand with one another; while telling the story of the west. This was a problem because the Indian’s already owned their land, and in order for the Manifest Destiny to work the American’s had to remove the Indian’s from that land by any means necessary. Despite all the advisory the Indian’s did gain something; the exhibition on Indian Ledger Drawings, makes fact that during the summer of 1878, the “St. Augustine Indians at Hampton, were carrying spade and hoe, awl and hammer”(N.M.A.H,n.d) which means that even though they were imprisoned they still ended up learning a trade of some sort and this would have helped them blend in the new world …show more content…
They refused to do so and fought for what they felt was right for them. The effort that Indians suffered in the 1800’s signifies the exertion of that some Indians still go through in today’s world .Even though we do not live in a world that forces you to live a certain area we still find many Indian’s living on the reservations because they are afraid that the people of this world will not accept them for who they are; due to the myths and history that world has led many to believe about
