The American Prison System
Fees, race, work programs, laws, Juveniles, and justice are all components of what is known to America as the prison system. All of which contains both positive and negative aspect of the American penal system. When it comes to our prison system today there is an increased number of inmates. This is due to the prison industrial complex which is the rapid growth of prisoners in the United States of America due to pressure from private companies on political figures so companies can gain a profit. However when the American justice system was set up it was to show that there is a consequence for your actions and rehabilitate criminals so they can learn for their past actions. Yet, criminalization is whatever the cultural of society you live in believes is wrong. So it can target a specific type of person or a specific group of people. Next is surveillance which is the way the government monitors said criminal behavior (Herzing, 2005, Page 3). The surveillancing the behavior is which leads the government to prosecute or enforce laws of whatever criminally negligent dead was done. The creation of rapid incarceration growth begins with policing courts and prison. Policing is the way the laws are carried out, courts is the way in which one can be tried for redemption or the seriousness of the crime is tested, and prison is the negative reinforcement which is meant to rehabilitate. Considering that some people are introduced to the law at a young age or due to current laws, such as the three strikes law. It makes it hard for criminals to rehabilitate. Prison are generally becoming more and more over populated. Nonetheless once in prison things do not get easier. One may face prison labor and fees. The fees prisoners are charged with is meant to cover their stay (i.e. cost of living) while they’re in jail and any familial issue (i.e. child support) on
