It caused numbers of people to be sacrificed by the famed guillotine, and it brought utter chaos to French society. There are varying reasons that contributed to this event, and there are opinions suggesting that American war of Independence was the most significant cause of French revolution. Indeed the American revolution is one of major causes of French revolution, but it may not be the ‘most’ significant cause of revolution. The reason for France to involve itself into American Revolution goes back several years. Britain was only serious colonial rival of France and conflict was unavoidable, and they had a warfare which is now called as ‘Seven Years War’. Result of war cost France not only majority of its oversea territories but its pride. France had sought for revenge since then. Some time after, Britain became involved with massive argument, which eventually develops to American war of Revolution, with North American colonies, who stood up against British Rules. France involved itself on the side of Americans, providing both financial and military support. Involvement of France in 1778 turned out to be pivotal to bring the defeat of the British force and creation of the United States of America. However, this turned out to become one most short-sighted action they could take for their own sake. The war was expensive. It cost them 1,066 million livres, which was an immense amount of money. Moreover, since government could not afford that much of money by themselves, they had to take out large international loans with high interest, even though they could manage to put on more taxes on people instead.
