Antonio Cruz and Felix Vargas, the main character in the story “Amigo Brothers” by Piri Thomas, had always dream of someday becoming lightweight champion of the world. Each had fought many bouts representing their community and had won two gold-plated medals plus a silver and bronze medallion. Now, after a series of elimination bouts, both Antonio and Felix had to fight against each other in the Golden Gloves Championship Tournament. Will the competition come between their friendships? Round 2 were complicated, but none of them give in. In Round 3, the final round where the winner would be decides. The fans let a cry of alarm as the two fighters fought toe-to-toe.
In the climax of the story, the winner of the fight was about to be declare. The announcer turned to point to the winner, but found himself alone. The champions left arm and arm; the two amigos had already left the ring. Throughout the story the two amigos fought each other with all their best just to represent The Boys Club. Menendez Brothers

The legal issue here is a double homicide. The two young men, Lyle Menendez and Erik Menendez, were accused and later convicted of killing their parents. On the night of the murder, their parents, Jose Menendez and Kitty Anderson, were at lying on the couch asleep when their two sons came in and shot them both dead with shotguns. The shot guns were purchased several days before, showing premeditation. The boys purposely chose to murder their parents on a night when their maid was off work, displaying special legal circumstances “lying and wait.” Due to these “special circumstances” the Menendez brothers were eligible for the death penalty. The brother’s defense was that they were sexually and psychologically abused by their mother and father for years. The brothers painted a picture of how controlling and abusive their father was and that their mother was emotionally and mentally unstable. The brothers never mentioned a word about the alleged abuse before the trial started, not even to their psychotherapist Dr. Jerome Oziel. The boys said that they feared their parents were going to kill them and they acted upon it by killing them out of fear. The prosecution claimed that the boys were selfish and that their motive was greed because they were not going to put into their fathers will. There are a few pieces of evidence that really make the brothers story hard to believe. One is the 911 call where the boys acted like they were upset that “someone killed their parents.” Two, after their parents were dead the young men spent approximately one million dollars of their parents money on over indulging themselves. Three, the tapes that were retrieved from their psychotherapist contained their confession. In these tapes they threatened his life if Dr. Oziel turned them in. The Menendez brothers had two trials, both in which they plead not guilty. The first one ended…

What sets this film apart from the typical “Rocky” boxing movie that, #1 it is a true story, and #2 the boxer has substance and is portrayed as a likeable family man fallen on hard times. This story occurred during the great depression when work was scarce and luxury was equivalent to having a piece of meat on your plate at dinner-time. The hero, James Braddock played by Russell Crowe was honest to the core, and despite experiencing minor success in the beginning in the movie was humble and endearing. James’s integrity was displayed in one scene involving his son stealing meat from the local butcher. His son’s motivation in committing the theft was fear; fear that he would be sent away because James and his wife Mae (Renée Zellweger) couldn’t provide for their children. While returning the meat, James had a heart to heart with his son explaining that although times were tough stealing was unacceptable behavior. He promised his son that no matter how bad things got, that the family would stay together. Sometime later the Braddock’s electricity was shut off due to non-payment and Mae sent the kid’s off to a relative’s house. When James found out he was horrified and consequently applied for relief from the government and went to his former boxing employers with his hat in his hand begging for the balance of $18 dollars that he needed to get the electricity…
