It is obvious that this man is evil, but he only has shown up twice in the book. He usually leaves to direct the incoming trains. He is a busy man it seems like, but nothing has been said about his medical practices, which leaves me on edge. He is infamous for his monstrosities, but all Nyiszli has said is that Mengele took him out of the group just so he could be a forensic surgeon. While that is generous in some respects, it is not the heartless Mengele that comes to mind. I am not sure if I will see this side of Mengele again when he appears. I am sure Nyiszli will go into more detail about Mengele’s work in the near future, but for now I am left in the dark with the horrors that go on in his exam…

Dr. Mengele was the Chief Physician at Auschwitz. He was known for preforming gruesome, inhumane experiments. He had a strange fascination with Heterochromia, or having two different colored eyes, and was trying to understand the secret of artificially changing eye color. His victims were twins, usually children. He was legally allowed to maim and kill them in order to obtain information therefore he collected their eyes and kept them as “research material”. His experiments were extremely painful and usually killed the patient. This is a perfect example of the horrible things that went on at the concentrations camps. No normal human could do something so evil, yet Dr. Mengele was so dehumanized he could do it with…

During World War II, German doctors and physicians conducted harmful and cruel experiments with victims of the Holocaust; mainly in the concentration camp “Auschwitz.” Nazis’ goals were to improve their medical science, prove that they were the “Master Race,” and they also wanted to have better treatments for the personnel of the German Military. The experiments performed were often deadly, but the physicians didn’t care, and tested the prisoners anyway. Some of the many victims were Jews, Romans, and others, who never gave their consent. Following this further, the Nazi’s experiments were divided in three categories - Race Experiments, War Injury Related Experiments, and Medical Experiments.…
