By casting a straight-passing, white male as his lead, the consensus is that Emmerich erases the diversity in the crowd that rioted against police with heels and stones on that monumental day, thus losing much of the historical significance. The assistant director of the Michigan State LGBT Resource Center, Alex Lange, and film studies professor, David Bering-Porter, could not be reached for comment at this time.…
1.The author included the quote from Hitler as the epigraph because he wrote "Who does now remember the Armenians" before the question and Hitler's quote answered it. The quote answers the question because only Hitler remembered the Armenians and did the same to the Jews. My ideas didn't change after reading Forgotten Fire because I already knew the story about the Armenian Genocide.…
The movie highlights the extermination of Armenians from the Ottoman Empire during World War I. It uses newspaper articles, photographs, personal statements and experts in the topic to discuss Turkey’s denial of the genocide to this day. In class we discussed how the Young Turks led the Ottoman Empire during WWI and used the war as a cover-up. The documentary discussed the genocide as a result of the civil war between Muslims and Christians. The government rationalized this by stating that the genocide never occurred, it was just a removal of the Armenians from the border. This would give Russians access to the Ottoman Empire through the Black Sea. They feared that the Armenians would ally with the enemies, the Russians, in hope to use Russian aid to create nationalized stated for the Armenians. I found this interesting because of the pull between these two reasoning for the killing of numerous Armenians.…
Many similarities and parallels can be made when comparing the Salem witch trials and the history of the LGBT movements in America. Many laws, bans, and unspoken rules were implemented onto minorities. In history, gay people have been persecuted for not only their sexuality but for being gender non conforming. Over the course of the 20th century great strides have been made in reducing the discrimination of those who do not conform, yet there are still progresses to be made. Those who are not cisgender and heterosexual have been mistreated much like those in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.…
1. What can be learned from Graffam’s letter about the motives of those who attacked the Armenians?…
The quote, “They [monuments dedicated to homosexual injustice] make people consider the past, and encourage greater understanding of sexual diversity and the dignity of gay men and women” (pg 99), is compelling because homosexuality is now accepted and universal. The fact that the struggles endured by homosexuals during the Holocaust were not recognized for years is appalling considering how much the world analyzed the mistreatment of the Jewish community.…
Angels in America play was about hate crime against gay or homosexual. Ten years ago society was not as acceptable of homosexual couples as today society.…
Genocide is the organized killing of a group of people for the express purpose of putting an end to their collective existence. The Armenian Genocide of 1915 was the most savage and barbaric episode in the history of the Armenian people. There were several main reasons the Turks carried out the genocide. Differences in the Armenian and Turkish culture, the continued conflict between the Armenians and the Turks, and the beginning of World War I led the Turks to kill over one and a half million Armenians.…
In tape #120: Sexual Orientation Issues it focused on gender identity, sexual orientation, and homophobia. The number of gays and lesbians has increase from 14.2 million to 15.1 million according to Dr. Adams on the video. Personally I believe that there are more gays than that, because a lot of people are still "in the closet" and have not "came out" yet. For years the debate has been going on whether or not individuals are born gay or if some force from society makes them become gay. The largest debate over these people lately has been whether or not gay and lesbian relationships should become legalize in the United States in the same manner that heterosexual relationships are.…
On April 24, 1915, the Ottoman government started its systematic decimation of its Armenian population. With the decline of power in the Ottoman Empire and military losses experience at the beginning of World War I, the Ottoman government used the Armenians as a way to blame their problems on someone else, thus began the Armenian Genocide. The Ottoman government confiscated Armenian possessions, deported them to different countries, and massacred large numbers of Armenian people. Many of the deported people died of starvation, and for the Armenians who did live, they witnessed brutalities that we could not imagine. By the time these horrible events did stop in 1918, around 1.5 million Armenians had died. The Turkish government, which was part…

In conclusion, the Armenian Genocide was a brutal time in history. Today, to recognize this horrible part in history, Armenians commemorate this mass genocide every 24th day of April at memorials all around the world. Only 10% of Armenians are left from this sad and brutal…
By the End of the Cold war the world had already seen the end of hundreds of wars and countless violations of human rights. With witnessing, these events substantial progress had been made to defining what human rights are and what constitutes a violation to human rights. The first of theses inalienable human rights being the biblical right to life. Several Non- governmental organizations dedicate their time and energy to maintaining a close watch over the world to report on any and all violations of human rights. An example of an area where non -governmental organizations have been relentless in their efforts to end human rights violation was in Bosnia in the early 1990’s.…
However the Kurdish genocide started decades before the Anfal and has claimed countless fatalities and victims. Anfal was part of an extensive policy that was started in the 1960s on Saddam Hussein’s ascension to power to ethnic cleansing the Kurdish inhabitance from northern part of Iraq. This process named as “Arabization” spanned the years from the early 1960s to 1991 and succeeded in substantively driving Kurdish families out of their houses in the Kurdistan region to desert areas of Iraq or some of them flew to Iran and Turkey. One of the significant factors in making of this process was the existence of strategically valuable oil fields in the Kurdistan region of Iraq and Kurdish forces known as Peshmerga their activity that was deemed…
