I Introduction The bad effects of junk food on Malaysian children has been attributed on energy levels of children, weight gain and illness and bad effect in education progress at school. II Body A One effect of junk food on Malaysian children is on energy levels. 1) Causes energy level to rise quickly, which sound good but then reducing of energy level will occur equally fast sending one back for another quick snack (Vandana, 2010) a Many children like to choose quick snack or a soft drink as their daily meals until they willing to skip breakfast or the other healthy meals (B.Miller & Andrew, 2012) 2) Causes having a problem to sleep at the night and moodiness (Vandana, 2010) a Body systems never restore energy levels back to normal (B.Miller & Andrew, 2012) B Another effect is weight gain and illness. 1) Obesity risk (Alissa, 2012) a In one junk food, a higher amount of calories, fat, carbohydrates and added sugar will easily consumed (Alissa, 2012) i Such that, they will less likely to consumed fiber, milk and fruits and vegetables (Alissa, 2012) ii So, this can make the children learn problematic patterns of eating and be addictive in taking junk food (Alissa, 2012) 2) Chronic illness (Alissa, 2012) a For example, heart disease that can raise cholesterol and blood pressure (B.Miller & Andrew, 2012) b Can cause the risk factors of diabetes also as its developing the insulin resistance (B.Miller & Andrew, 2012) C Another effect is the bad effect in education progress at school (Netmums.Ltd, 2012) 1) The children in between the ages of 6 and 10 made less progress in school who ate a diet in high processed foods, salt, fat and sugar compared to the children who had eaten more healthily (Netmums.Ltd, 2012) a In order to get the best out of their education, it is very important to children to eat well balanced diet from an early age (Dr Pauline & Netmums.Ltd, 2012) 2) Poor concentration (Jared, 2008) a High amount of oil and fat containing in junk food (Jared, 2008) i Human body needs to spend high amount of blood and enzymes as its found that this food difficult to digest (Jared, 2008) ii Children feels suffers because of reduced concentration and they will also feels drowsy (Jared, 2008) III Conclusion Impact on energy level, weight gain and illness and bad effect in education progress at school as low focus by taking a lot of junk food seem to be the causes of the bad effects of junk food on Malaysian children.

Junk food is a term applied to some foods which are perceived to have little or no nutritional value, or to products considered unhealthy to consume at all. They are typically ready-to-eat convenience foods containing high levels of saturated fats, salt/ sugar and little or no fruit, vegetables or dietary fibre.
Junk Foods thus have little or no health benefits. Nevertheless, the Junk Foods are popular because of their simplicity to manufacture, consume and of course their taste. People prefer to eat them while watching TV and also save themselves a lot of hassles and time.
HARMFUL EFFECTS OF JUNK FOOD
The first effect of eating Junk Food is its impact on energy levels. Many people skip breakfast and other important meals choosing instead to grab a quick snack or soft drink.
The Junk Food causes energy level to spike, which people like but then energy levels plummet equally fast sending one back for another quick snack. In addition Junk foods can cause moodiness and make it difficult to get enough sleep at night so energy levels are never restores to normal.
Another disadvantage of eating Junk Food is weight gain, which can lead to obesity overtime. Poor concentration is another result of Junk food habit.
When you have a junk meal rich in Oil you feel drowsy and fail to concentrate. Heart deceases are a major risk factor of Junk Food Diet.
The biggest irony regarding the Junk Food is the fact that it is mostly prepared out of healthy food. Consider a Pizza loaded with thick vegetable topping.
The Junk factor of Pizza comes from the excessive cheese sprinkled over the vegetable and of course the Pizza base, which is made of refined flour which contains empty calorie.

Eating junk food can have a significant impact on one's health. Though many people enjoy eating junk food and think it tastes great, the health consequences can be serious, and can range from everything to low energy levels to weight gain and illness. The term "junk food" encompasses a fairly broad category of food, but it typically refers to foods that are relatively high in caloric content, but low in nutritional value.
Junk food is often high in sugar, salt, white flour, and fat, particularly saturated fat. It is often heavily processed and prepackaged, making it easy to prepare and consume. A few examples of foods often considered to be junk food include fast food, sweets such as ice cream, candy, donuts, and prepackaged treats, soda, and potato chips, among many others. Most people have no trouble identifying junk food; it is when they want to stop eating junk food that the trouble starts.

Another one of the most obvious effects from eating junk food is weight gain. People who eat a lot of junk food tend to gain weight quickly, which can lead to obesity over time; this extra weight then has an impact on the health of the rest of the body. It can raise cholesterol and blood pressure, contributing to heart disease. In addition, eating junk food can cause one to develop insulin resistance, which is one of the risk factors for diabetes; this is a particular concern in children.
When the body does not get proper nutrition, it can become difficult to concentrate. It can also cause depression. Keep all of these health effects of junk food in mind before eating anything; a healthy diet can lead to greater energy levels, improved mood and concentration ability, weight loss, and decreased risk factors for heart disease and diabetes. Though junk food may be easy and fast, its health impacts are too great to ignore.

Yes, eating junk food as a toddler affects your child's performance in school up to seven years later.
While school dinners have been under the spotlight in recent months, new research suggests that what a child eats before they start school could be even more important than what they eat once at school - not only affecting how they grow and develop but also how they perform at school up to seven years later. In fact it appears that children who perform poorly at school are more likely to have been affected by the diet they ate in the years before they started school, than the chicken nuggets that they ate at lunchtime.
This research has come out of the Child of the 90's study (also known as the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children), which is following the development of 14,000 children born in 1991-2 in Avon.

Lack of energy:
Junk foods do not contain any nutrients that are beneficial to the human body. In most cases, these foods are filled with harmful carbohydrates, fats and cholesterol that do not provide any useful energy. As a result, somebody consuming junk food has reduced level of essential nutrients thereby causing weakness in the body.
Poor Concentration:
One disadvantage of consuming junk food is that it contains high amount of oil and fat. As a result, human body finds this food difficult to digest and needs to spend high amount of blood and enzymes. When a person consumes junk food in excess, a major portion of blood in the body is diverted to the intestine. As a result, the person feels drowsy and suffers with reduced concentration.
Heart Diseases:
Junk foods have been identified as a major cause of heart diseases including myocardial infraction, cardiac arrest and atherosclerosis. This is due to the fact that junk food contains excessive amount of low-density lipoproteins and cholesterol that get deposited on the inner linings of blood vessels. This result in formation of plaques and the heart is required to put an extra effort for pumping blood through the arteries. Presence of fat in the blood also causes reduced oxygen levels. Another harmful factor present in junk foods is excess concentration of sugars and salt. Excessive concentration of sodium ions causes an increased heart blood pressure.
Liver Failure:
Even liver gets damaged due to presence of ingredients such as fat, cholesterol and salt inside the junk foods.
Diabetes:
Junk foods also cause damage to the pancreas resulting in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM).

Junk food can be appealing for a variety of reasons, including convenience, price and taste. For children, who do not always understand the health consequences of their eating habits, junk food may appear especially appetizing. However, regularly consuming fattening junk food can be addictive for children and lead to complications like obesity, chronic illness, low self-esteem and even depression, as well as affecting how they perform in school and extracurricular activities.

Energy and Focus
According to the Women’s and Children’s Health Network, diet has a significant effect on children’s study habits. Junk food and foods with high sugar content deplete energy levels and the ability to concentrate for extended periods of time. Energy and focus are especially crucial for school-age children. Children set the foundation for lifelong habits in their youth, making junk food particularly hazardous to their well-rounded development. Physical activity is also essential for children of all ages, and regularly eating junk food does not provide the necessary nutrients children need for sufficient energy to engage in physical activity. A lack of physical activity is harmful to physical and mental well being and may also exclude a child from critical social development.
Obesity Risk
A study published in “Pediatrics” in 2004 found fast-food consumption in children was linked with many dangerous precursors for obesity. According to this study, kids who ate fast food were more likely to consume a higher amount of calories, fat, carbohydrates and added sugars in one fast food meal. They were also less likely to consume as much fiber, milk and fruits and vegetables as children who did not eat fast food. Children who consumed more fattening foods while eating fast food were also likely, in general, to eat more unhealthy foods at other meals. According to a statement released by the journal “Nature Neuroscience” in 2010, high-calorie food can be addictive, causing children who occasionally eat fast food to learn problematic patterns of eating. These factors were found to place children who regularly ate fast food at increased risk for obesity.
Chronic Illness
According to the Prevention Institute, experts blame junk food for rising rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and stroke. Increasing rates of chronic illness affect children who regularly consume junk food. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predicts if current trends continue, one in three U.S. adults will have diabetes by the year 2050. Diabetes can result in disability and premature death. The Center for Food Safety noted in 2012 that obese children are also more likely to develop high cholesterol and heart disease later in life. According to the Women’s and Children’s Health Network, changes can happen in children’s bodies even when they’re young that are associated with disease at a more advanced age.
Self-Esteem and Depression
Self-esteem and confidence in oneself are especially important to growing children, and regularly consuming junk food can negatively impact this sense of self. According to “Kids Health Club” magazine, junk food can affect a child’s physical development in detrimental ways, including unhealthy weight gain, which can result in self-esteem problems. Low self-esteem can lead to consequences like depression. Nutritionists at MayoClinic.com also report eating junk food can potentially cause depression on its own. According to the journal “American Family Physician,” depression -- which can be very dangerous for children -- has negative impacts on growth and development, performance in school and social relationships and can ultimately lead to suicide.

    Reading an article on the front page of a prominent newspaper caught my eye, “Fast Food Leads To Chronic Diseases”.
