Just Later, That's all is a story about a Barber and a Captain. Captain Torres goes into to get his hair cut at the Barbers because he hears a rumor of what the barber would do if the Captain was to come into the barber shop. Captain Torres and The Barber are similar because they both value their jobs where as they are different because Captain Torres values leadership and punishment and The Barber values respect and peace.

Captain Torres and The Barber both vaule their jobs, in one way Captain Torres values his job by killing people without a second thought because it is his job. "But we did all right, you know. We got the main ones. We brought back some dead, we've got some others still alive. But pretty soon they'll all be dead". This is showing that Captain Torres values his job in every way and do whatever it takes to keep his job his. "They told me that you'd kill me. i came to find out. but killing isnt easy. you can take my word for it", right there is showing Captain Torres valuing leadership taking one for the team to see if the rumors are true to see if he was to go into the barber shop and get killed by the barber since the barber is not a big fan on Captain Torres. Punishment is also something that Captain Torres values, "the day he ordered the whole town to file into the patio of the school to see the four rebels hanging there, i came face to face with him for an instant". Torres is valuing punishment by making the whole town watch the four rebels hanging. But when it comes to Captain Torres values his values always have something to do with his job which shows his main priority is his

Manuel was not very knowledgeable because while he was trying to figure out a plan to get back home, he ran into a petty merchant-cattleman. His name was Manuel Morjaras, and was almost successful in defrauding all of Gonzálezs proceeds. González did have his priorities straight because he a goal and plan in which to achieve that goal. His plan was to gather a herd, sell some beeves at Santa Rosa, then go to the fair, and try to obtain enough money so he could be transported to his homeland. After explaining the situation at the shopping center to the sergeant Mancuso receives a harsh response. “‘Jesus Christ!’ the sergeant said. ‘Trying to arrest a kid with his momma, bringing in somebody’s grampaw. Get the hell outta here, Mancuso, and take grampaw with you. You wanna arrest suspicious characters? We’ll fix you up’” (pg 18). Not only does the sergeant ridicule Mancuso as an officer but also punishes him and demoralizes him for no true reason. Out of this quote one can see his cruelty at its finest. As a sergeant he is supposed to prep officers and teach them how to properly do things, yet instead he is simply bashing on his lower rankers. He abuses his power by using his authority to force Mancuso to wear a different goofy costume everyday throughout the novel. The humor of this scene is definitely one of absurdity since the idea of Mancuso being forced to wear foolish costumes everyday as a direct result of his hard work simply does not make sense. Police officers are also supposed to wear prestigious uniforms and not outrageous outfits because it will make them not appear serious, which is key trait of their jobs. The sergeant’s abuse of Mancuso provides a strong satirical caricature of typical immoral authority.…

Captain Torres should have been killed, as he was a cruel man who had killed and tortured in the past many. The barber had him right in his hands, but he didn't take the chance of killing him knowing that there would be an end of his killing and his terror. With Captain Torres dead, many civilians and rebels would be filled with relief that their life wouldn't be in danger every day. Many people would praise the barber for the deed that has been done to save many lives. However, at the same time, others would have gone to the barber to get revenge on Captain Torres.…

First and foremost, the composers of each text want the audience to consider the corruption that occurs in authority, particularly within the police force. In ‘The Removalists’, the aged, experienced policeman, Simmonds, is obviously corrupt. It is clear from the beginning of the play that Simmonds only takes an interest in others when he feels that he will benefit from them in some way. When sisters Kate and Fiona approach the policemen for their help, Simmonds only agrees to assist them as he believes that it will lead to the women having sex with him, as suggested by his comment to Ross, “we’ll be in like Flynn.” Similarly, in ‘Training Day’, experienced narcotics officer, Alonzo Harris, only takes action and helps others when he wants something in return. At the beginning of the film, Harris and his rookie officer Hoyt, drive past an alley where a teenage girl is being physically assaulted by two men. While Hoyt throws the men to the ground and wants to arrest them, Harris stands aside and lets them go. He sees no benefit to himself in doing what is morally right. However, later on in the film, Harris supplies food and money to three men in order to have Hoyt killed.…

The officer condemns to death anyone brought to him on suspicion of breaking the law. He does not question the alleged, give him a chance to defend himself, nor does the officer search for evidence beyond one person’s claim. He simply believes that “Guilt is never to be doubted” (Kafka 145). This seems flawed to Western individuals who support a justice system that appreciates the value of human life. However, the officer seems to more greatly appreciate the value of human destruction. For instance, the officer exclaims on page 154, “How we all absorbed the look of transfiguration on the face of the sufferer, how we bathed our cheeks in the radiance of that justice, achieved at last and fading so quickly!” (Kafka). The officer is conveying a sense of captivation with the justice that is served at the suffering of the condemned. Human life is easily…

He then, however, decides to mutilate their corpses by using them as target practice, perhaps to frighten the rebels into conforming, which is not an aspect of his job, but rather an unnecessary extension of his power as an official with a firearm. In addition, the barber could choose to utilize the vulnerability of Captain Torres and murdered him when he entered the barber shop and allowed the barber to shave him. However, the barber instead chose to remain within the bounds of the agreement he made as a barber, which is to ensure that the customer leaves with a clean shave and no cuts. In our society, this is observable in a multitude of situations in which individuals try to push the limits of their power. For example, on occasion, members of the rich and famous commit illegal acts and assume that there will be no punishment because of their perceived power within society. This is, however, not true in any case in which an uncorrupted law enforcement system is in power, as having large sums of money does not suddenly make illegal acts legal. This questionable act of excessive power display is also present in law enforcement in modern society as well. This can unfortunately present in the actions of police who decide to use their access to a gun to commit unjust hate crimes against certain individuals and groups of people. These behaviours are not within the limits of their duty to society, and they are therefore more commonly using these acts as statements of power against those they view as lesser, similar to the actions of Captain…

In the short story “Ashes For the Wind” by Hernando Tellez, the author uses conflicts to develop the theme that sometimes we have to sacrifice our life to fight corruption. Juan, the protagonist, is a tenant who lives a peaceful life in the village with his wife Carmen and a new born baby. He involves in an external conflict when the corrupt government orders his family to move out of their own place. At the beginning of the story, Arevalo visits Juan’s farm house and tells him “it would be best for you to clear out”. He then recalls his unpleasant encounter of the same man and a policeman in town; they treat him unfairly. With the policeman carrying whip, and others refusing to sell him oil, Juan senses he is in a bad situation. Moreover, Juan’s external conflict causes his internal conflict since he now faces the dilemma of whether they should move out of their own home. He struggles to find an answer because either way they have to sacrifice something. On one hand he doesn’t want to give up his own place and let the authority wins; On the other hand he jeopardizes his family’s life if they don’t move out. A second intimidating visit soon comes. A Police man fires at his place and Arevalo just stands there “with hanging head”. In the end Juan chooses to stay in the farm with his wife and son, so they all die in a set up fire. Both external and intenal conflicts are resolved here when the authority appears to win but in fact the author sends out a message that people should not be intimidated and should stand up to corruption like Juan and his family…

Captain Torres’ character is over-confident, ruthless, and blasé. Firstly, Torres is an over-confident man. His presence is loud and hard to go unnoticed. His actions and words reflect a state of mind of being a know-it-all and diving into dangerous situations with no fear, “They told me you would kill me. I came to find out if it was true. But it’s not easy to kill. I know what I’m talking about.” (Tellez 184) Torres is so confident that he knowingly put his life at risk under the impression that he is too superior to be killed. In addition, Torres was so confident that the barber would be too scared to kill him that he tested it out just to see if he was right. Above all, Torres’ words display arrogance and over-confidence and he seems…

Among the makers of modern India, chandu, the barber boy of our village, has a place which will be denied him unless I press for the recognition of his contribution to history. Chandu’s peculiar claim to recognition rested, to tell the truth, on an exploit of which he did not know the full significance. But then, unlike most great men of India today, he had a very exaggerated notion of his own importance, though he shared with them a certain native egotism which was sometimes disconcerting and sometimes rather charming.…

The sentence passed on him is just, and may lawfully be confirmed on its own merits.”…
