This film was made in 1983 by Loretta Swift and it was based off of the novel “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”. This is a short film which is only forty-eight minutes long, but it is a very nice short film. The film is based off of a church who has a tradition of hosting a Christmas pageant every year for the people in the neighbor to come and see and it has always been put together by the same person until an accident occurred to her that required her to be placed on bed rest. The pageant was then turned over to Mrs. Bradley to be in control off, but everything didn’t go as planned because the neighborhood worst children decided to be a part of the Christmas pageant this year and they were known as the “Herdman
Kids”. No one wanted to have anything to do with them because they were the children who set things on fire and bullied other children out of their items. One thing a lot of people didn’t know was that the Herdman children never really knew how to love because they never had anyone to actually show them attention due to their father leaving them at a young age and their mother never being home due to her always working to support them. I honestly believe that the six Herdman children behavior was bad because they screamed for attention and it seemed to them that they was only noticed being bad. The Herdman children started changing their ways when they started to learn more about the bible and actually got a better understanding on being appreciative for the simple things of life. With Imogene being the oldest daughter who played Mary in the pageant she got a better understanding on how important it was to know the important things of life instead of taking from others. At the end of the movie the Herdamn children change their bad habits and their mother was at the pageant and no one even noticed because they were so use to her not being around the children. One of the Herdman boys brought a ham to the baby Jesus when he played the three wise men because to him that was a gift that was worth giving to someone else because it was important to him and his siblings.
