I wound up ready to watch as my chance on the team would soon slip away. I threw it and amazingly it was perfect the coach even applauded my “Performance” and announced very loudly “Here’s my starter” I was elated once the drills were done we went inside and hit a few baseballs of the coach into a net in the gym.…
However, I was in a package against Big Lake and I shut down receiver. The following week in practice while I was working harder than even Coach Herberg came up to me and said “I’m starting you at the corner this week. You had a good game and you deserve it. Good job kid.” We were playing Willmar and I was very nervous. It was my first varsity start. Coaches said that was normal and said for me to relax. I played extremely well and I was very proud of myself. The following three weeks I have started and became more confrontable with playing on Friday night. My focus level was as high as ever and I was improving my talent day by day. Hard work does really pay off. I worked hard and did my job throughout the year and on the field. I listened to my coaches and stayed true to myself and I sure did pay off. I’m playing varsity and had kept the promise I had with myself last…
My grandpa taught me how to be a switch hitter he said I would be more deadly against pitcher and at the time I didn't believe him because I was a kid and thought my grandpa didn't know anything about baseball. In high school I got my dad to let me play football I played halfback and was pretty good I was fast so I could outrun people and one day in practice I got kicked in the shine in practice an I didn't think anything of it because it football it will be fine but I was wrong when I woke up the next morning my ankle and shine were black an blue and swollen 2 times the regular size turns out I had a infection in my leg and that was the end of football for me and my dad was scared the same for baseball but it didn't stop me when baseball tryouts came I stole the show with my power hitting an my speed. When word got out about me mlb scouts came to see me the Yankees Dodgers and much more but I really didn't know they were there for me.I was drafted out of high school and was playing with the best team at the time the New York Yankees the Kings of baseball so when I went to spring training goals were…
We waited in the gym for about 4 hours, then I got hungry. I walked through the dark hallway to use the vending machine. After I got my honey bun, I walked around to the field house to see if they posted the team. They did, 14 id numbers on one sheet of paper. I looked up and down the list multiple times looking for my id number and unfortunately it wasn’t on there. My heart was broken and I was so confused. I walked home teary-eyed and when I arrived home I cried my eyes out. After that I didn’t play basketball for a whole week, which I had never done. After that week I got back in the gym, and kept playing every day as usual. I went to all of their games because I loved the sport and I wanted to support my friends. After the season ended everything went back to normal, we kept going to the YMCA every day. Now school has ended and summer league starts. Coach put me on Jr. Varsity just too test my skills and the first game, it was the best game of my life. I dunked the ball on a fast break and I couldn’t miss. I was the star player and that showed coach I was better so he put me on varsity. All in all I am just saying never give up and work as hard as you can, it will pay…
Athletics has been an integral component of my entire life. While never being the most athletic or skilled, baseball was my passion growing up. The sport served as a garden for me to grow as a person, learn invaluable lessons, and gain friendships that will last a lifetime. After years of playing year-round, I was blessed to have the option of playing at a couple Small Division II schools or pursue a more academically rigorous degree at UVa. Ultimately, I chose the latter and it has been at the University of Virginia where CrossFit transformed from a supplementary regimen to my passion.…

My father, Coach Blake, told me to start the game off the right way and I did. The first pitch I hit deep in the outfield and got a triple. The team follow in them steps. The score of the game was our 8 to there 4. Then the team got cocky. That was a really bad idea through. We started to play horrible. We wasn’t getting on base nor playing good defense. The other team took over. Now the game was tied 8-8 and the game was coming to an end. It was our time to bat and we fail to score. It went three up three down. All we need was at least one person to hit and I would’ve hit again. All both Coach wanted was to get Torin and Me to hit. It fail to happen and now it was the other team turn to hit. The bases was load and they had two outs. One more out and we got another chance. Coach moved me from to catcher to pitcher and the pitcher to catcher. I throw the ball and the batter hit it down the third base line and they score. The game was over. We lose 9-8.…
After being cut from the varsity team, I decided to make the most of my junior varsity experience by working to be one of the team’s standout players. I ran every day and worked on my throwing and catching constantly.…
When I was 4 years old, I started playing T-Ball and I became obsessed with the sport. I played every summer from 4 years old until I started playing school ball. I loved the sport so much, I played travel ball every summer and fall. My goal was to play college baseball after graduating high school. I quit all other sports so I could train year around on baseball. My senior year I was chosen to take part in the Under Armour Baseball Tournament in Bradenton, Florida. I got to stay and train in the Pittsburgh Pirates facility. Once, I got back in school, the guidance counselor was meeting with each student to discuss their plans for college. Of course, my plan was to get a scholarship to play baseball and I had not really thought…
I entered high school with a chip on my shoulder, bitter from being the smallest and being disregarded by my classmates. This perceived injustice drove me to work extremely hard. Night after night, I would be in the basement working on my swing, wanting to prove my worth to everyone. After months of practicing, my softball skills were starting to progress, and I was finally starting to grow. I then began to experience success on the softball field as well.…
So we kinda knew we were gonna win, but we didn’t want to jinx it and lose. We had a fantastic game and won 14-1. I had a total 0 plays out in the outfield and that sure was a whole lot of fun. I went 3-4 when I was batting which is ok but I could have gone 4-4, Since I wasn’t seeing the ball out of the pitcher's hand I was late on the ball and was all in all, a bad game. Our season was doing really well and ended really poorly, It ended by us losing 9-1, We were not happy nor were we upset that we lost. but we understood we needed to get better. Whereas High school baseball is gonna be way better cause we don’t play the same teams we play easier teams. Which is nice because we will win much easier and not have any competition. The high school team consistently wins regionals which is cool and they have been to state a couple…
As a freshman, with previous experience playing volleyball in middle school and at the beach, this essence of competition was very attractive to me and so I tried out and made the junior varsity team. Last year, during my club season, after sitting on the bench for the first part of the year, my coach recognized my improvement and hard work and gave me the starting role for the second half of the season. The little voice in my head telling me "you'll never make it!" or "you're not good enough!" inspired (and continues to inspire) me to persistently improve every aspect of my playing during practice and such an attention to detail, combined with my inner motivation to improve, lead to my…
I had struck out most of the up-bats before that (I wasn’t necessarily the best baseball player back then). However, I was completely ready for the ball to come at me. I grasped the handle of the cold, hard bat tightly. The ball flew right over the home plate, and I hit it with all the power I had left in my body. The ball went soaring, looking like a white bird migrating south. The ball landed unquestionably far into right field, and as soon as it did, I started to sprint to first base. I decided that it would be safe to round to second base. I had already been past second base when the player playing right field got to the ball. I made it to third base, wondering if I could sprint home. I decided to wait, but I clearly could have ran to home plate. It took a while to process what had just happened. I had just hit a two-run RBI triple! I hadn’t even noticed the two runners on base come home, since I was really in the moment. Our team got through the inning, and it was my turn to pitch. This was only the second time that I had ever pitched while playing baseball! I ran out to the mound, and I started to warm up with the catcher. I rolled the hard, slightly dirty ball in my fingertips. “You can do this, Nathan,” I thought to myself nervously. “The whole team is relying on you.” After a bit of time, I was able to strike out two players and get a groundout to end the…
It was a week away and surprisingly I was calm for the upcoming event. Usually I would be nervous from the top of my head all the way down to the bottom of my toes, but I had so much confidence that it was inspiring to others. Knowing that the big day was 2 days away, of course I had to go out and buy new equipment so I could not play the part, but also look the part. Shortly after buying a new Nike helmet, Swingman batting gloves and a brand new solid pro maple SamBat I immediately went to the cages. The bat had the biggest sweet spot and the most pop out of all my bats. The ball hitting of the barrel sounded like gunshots. I felt like taking a million swings, but I knew if I stayed there for a long time I would be a little tired for the big day so I only took 100 swings and called it a day. Finally the next day I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock with the mindset of determination. I quickly got dressed in the proper sports attire and fled out the house with my brother. On the way there I had the speakers on blast playing the most inspiring and highest BPM songs I had on my play-list. After arriving to the parking lot I had walked to the front entrance of the stadium where they had given me a shirt with a specific number and a cap so it could be worn on the field. After suiting up and taking the first step on the field, the amazing view of the inside of a baseball stadium had me speechless. Knowing that professionals play here too had me feeling proud that I was doing something with my life and that hopefully it was going to lead me somewhere better. Before starting all the drills and the showcasing of the performance of the players, the commissioner of the league had a few words to say. Shortly after the speech was done, we had finally started to begin! Everyone was split into different groups. Some kids were hitting, some were pitching, and some were taking ground balls. I was put into the hitting…
It took a couple minutes, but I had finally arrived to first base. I had the biggest smile on my face, I was over joyed, but after looking at my coach the smile dissapeared. When I got back to the dugout I was immediatly taken out of the game, and had to think about what I did wrong. I was only five years old, and I made one little mistake and got punished for it. Tears started running down my face, so my I had to leave the game. My parents were furoius, so their was a lot of yelling and screaming towards my coach. As I sat in the car waiting for my parents I thought to myself, "this was suppose to be what I wanted to do throughout my life. I wanted to be just like my parents, but I wasn't good enough." In that instant I relized I needed to practice more. I needed to learn more about the game.…
