As with almost all "Christian" holidays, Easter has a secular side as well. The dichotomous nature of Easter and its symbols, however, is not necessarily a modern fabrication. Easter has always had its non-religious side. In fact, Easter was originally a pagan festival. It was co-opted by Christian missionaries starting in the second century CE. Easter must be celebrated on a Sunday between the dates of March 22 and April 25.…
The purpose of this text enable us to understand what the narrator made us think, reflect and considerate towards his painful and haunted life-journey. The narrator made us think by using many themes or key words such as satisfaction, betrayal, salvation and redemption to engage but also reflect the audience regret. A great example of this is when Amir has proved himself enough to redeem himself from his betrayal to Hassan. “…
More than anything else inner journeys are about the challenge of self reflection . Do you agree?…
The hero in any journey learns many lessons through the people he meets, and their response to the events. Bilbo Baggins in “The Hobbit” directed by Peter Jackson is no different. He is required to overcome many obstacles in his journey, and by doing so, he learns a valuable lesson. Bravery, thinking creatively, courage and the sense of belonging, these lessons is communicated to audience throughout the film by using thoughtful film techniques such as camera angles, shots, facial expressions of the actors and the music. When these techniques are used simultaneously can communicate the relative importance of the film.…
To go on a journey does not necessarily require one to physically move from one place to another. A journey can happen anywhere, and at any time, even if you are not moving. An inner journey is to transcend above the physical and temporal world into a spiritual realm. This enables one to look at life attentively and be alert to the lessons learnt from experience. ‘Of Eurydice’ by Ivan Lalic, ‘Fax X’ by Gwyneth Lewis, ‘Wind in the Willows’ by Kenneth Graham, ‘The Road Not Taken’ by Robert Frost, ‘The Red Tree’ by Shaun Tan and ‘Baraka’ directed by Ron Fricke are five texts that explore this concept of inner journeys. Collectively they present inner journeys to be inevitable, that they require you to make choices and that they make you ask questions of an ontological nature.…
Internal and external conflicts are prominent throughout human history in all societies that have existed. In the Pacific Northwest, the Native Indians tribes, both Plateau and Costal Indians tribes participated in intertribal warfare even before European and American intervention. With the incoming white settlers brought new perspectives, religions, ideas and authority all of which the Indians saw no purpose or understanding considering their culture prospered on the animalism & Earth belonging to all, friction and tension arose between the two communities, thus erupting violence and bloodshed as both fought for their individual perceptions and interests. This was the beginning of the era of Indian Wars, following the recent Missionary Era and flood of Oregon Pioneers. The wars caused bloodshed, slaughter and violent confrontations between the two races, massive discrimination and unfair justice ensued upon the Native Americans. The Indians, on their last stand was basically the Nez Perce Retreat of over 1,400 miles led by Chief Joseph. The Nez Perce had viable reasons not to go on the reservation and promoted peace to a great extent, all Chief Joseph requested is fair justice, by the white mans laws. However small conflicts and factors forced them to abandon their ideas of peace, and instead fight and retreat.…
The heroes’ journey teaches us to appreciate the beginning, middle and end of a person seeking to change, grow, sacrifice, kill your old self and transform. Finding their own, ambitious person by learning their strengths and weaknesses. Personally I loved this book because it helped me understand my own characteristics that have led me to come up with the concept I am introducing today. My journey has guided me through the ordinary world to coming full circle and reaching the special world in coordination with this concept. For me I have always been a warrior, magician, a shape shifter who thinks about the world in a different way because of my upbringing and adversities I have had to face as a child. My journey goes far before this paper or…
We had all travelled, for the past two days, in a mini bus from Canada to America. My aunt recommended us to go to America on a tour, as we could see far more attractions than that in Canada. The bus had a very warm and pleasant mood as we had seen enjoyed our short but pleasant, trip thoroughly. From the Empire State Building to the Statue of Liberty we not only had the pleasure of seeing some of the greatest tourist attractions in the world but also spending time who began as strangers but now very close friends.…
It is a great feeling going to a place where it’s a huge matter in one’s life. “Revisiting Sacred Ground” N. Scott Momaday had made a pilgrimage which his Kiowa ancestors. Momaday has said,” There are certain villages, and towns mountains and plains that, having seen them, walked in them, lived in them, even for a day, we keep forever in the mind’s eye.” Just like how Momaday relived his ancestor’s trails, I had a chance as well. I was lucky enough to be able to go on such a sacred journey that people would pay in thousands of dollars. The pilgrimage I would like to talk about is the one I took to a sacred city in India called Badrinath. I follow Hinduism, and in Hinduism there is a saying/belief that if we go on this enriching, and spiritual journey, we will go to heaven after we pass. I have a guru, like a living god, who I listen to and look up to. He took me on this spiritual journey.…
I’ve been taking different ways to get out of here, but I kept ending up back where I started. The walls were mocking me at my distressed, and they’re laughter echoed throughout the entire labyrinth. I groaned in irritation, gazing up at the sky. The bright moon was my only light source, my only aid to guide me through this darken maze. I’m aggravated that the King of the Goblins didn’t give me any tools to use for this maze, but he probably wouldn’t have anyway.…

Road tripping is supposed to be fun and exciting. It gives me an opportunity to jump in the car and explore something new. In the summertime 2008 when I got my 99’ Dodge Intrepid back from the previous accident, I begun my road trip to Yellowstone National Park in early morning. As I drove down the road, I soon realized that I had never been anywhere alone before. This was a new feeling for me, one of strength and fear rolled into one. My trip was nerve wrecking because I faced a certain problems with my car that I have never experienced before, but it taught me a lot about how to maintain my car.…
I will never forget the first time I went to Six Flags Great Adventure. It was on June 24, 2012. I went with my family, we tried a lot of rides. It was an unforgettable experience for us because we didn’t know about the speed of these extreme rides. They were very interesting but at the same time terrifying.…
On July 31, 2013 I was on my way with a train call Herina with destination to Bandung. At that time, it was my first time on a train. I was so scared because I have no idea how to find the place to sit or to find my seat number. So in order to do that, I asked one of the securities guard to help me find carriage and where my seat was. Right at 9 pm the train starts to run the engine, I was so excited. On the way, I met a nice family who also went to Bandung, so I felt relieve because they were very nice. We talked about a lot of thing like, where I come from, my studies, what are my major, and they asked who’s going to pick me up at the train station. Time passed and I arrived at Bandung station, my family were already waited for me, I was so happy because my first time on a train was successful. Next day, my family had planned journey to Tangkuban Perahu. So I was so happy because, I think my holiday will be perfect, but it was not. It turned out that my uncle jhon who stays at Jakarta was sick, so we went and visit him and his family. I was a little bit disappointed, I told myself that “it is not a big deal; I still can go to tangkuban perahu whenever I want, Family come 1st” on the way to Jakarta my uncle jhon was already hospitalized at Husada hospital, it turned out that my uncle had appendicitis so the doctors need to make a surgery, fortunately it was not too late. The operation went well, and the doctor said that my uncle will recovery within a week. To be honest, I’m not so interested anymore to think about my holiday, because I thought, this is the end of my journey; my family will have to look after my uncle. So “that was it” said to myself, but a miracle happened because 4 days since my uncle was hospitalized, he recovery very fast, even the doctor seems amazed with my uncle. So the next 2 days since my uncle came out of the hospital, my dad planned the journey to Tangkuban perahu again, and this time, we…
