The Big Field By Mike Hutch Character Analysis

The main character in my story “The Big Field” written by Mike Lupica, is a fourteen year old boy named Hutch. He plays in a minor league baseball team in Florida for the Cardinals. He wants his team to win the championship. They can win the championship by playing their hardest and working together. Hutch is athletic, short tempered, and determined. He is athletic because he plays a lot of sports and he also really good at baseball. That’s why he plays baseball for a really good team. He practices a lot, so He’ll get better. It says in the book in Hutch’s point of view that “When I got up to bat I told myself that I was going to make a good hit.” And sure enough he hit a homerun. I think that by him being really athletic that he might get a scholarship for baseball in college or just make it to the MLB. That shows that he’s athletic.
One day when he got up, he told himself that they were gonna win the championship, and he was right they did. After one of the games they had lost Hutch made a commitment to himself that he was gonna help his team and help his teammates get better so that they could win. So that proves that he is determined. I think that by him being determined he can accomplish anything he wants as long as he is determined and tries his hardest.
He is short tempered because it says in the book that he missed a ground ball once and Darryl his friend tried to give him some tips and Hutch started fighting with Darryl. It also says in the book that he got in an argument with his dad because he was telling him what he messed up on in the game so he could work on them and Hutch started yelling and telling his dad that he did them right. This shows that Hutch is short tempered. I think that it’s a bad thing that he’s short tempered because that means that he might get in fights or not work with his
