Many children might not get the opportunity to run about at home so at my work setting we give the children allotted time everyday (about 45min daily) and take them to our outside area where they can run and play and get all the physical activity that they need. However, if it is raining outside we have a special area inside where they can still run about and have plenty of physical activity. "SLAM!," the bedroom door shut before I could even finish my sentence. I don't recall or perhaps tried to forget my teen years and all the drama that comes with it. I stood there in disbelief that my daughter was actually having a tantrum. Furious and not sure how to react I couldn’t help but wonder where my sweet little girl went? Then I reminded myself how when she was a toddler, I couldn’t wait for her to grow up. Little did I know there wasn’t much of a difference between the two. Having a teenager or toddler can both be rewarding and extremely stressful. I have found that teenagers and toddlers may have their differences but to my surprise have many similarities as well.…
To advance physical and intellectual competence I provide numerous activities to enhance these qualities in the children that I teach. In the area of physical, my goal is to make sure the students are given many possibilities to participate in large motor activities daily. I make this fun by joining them while they are playing. I encourage them to do activities that encourage running and jumping. We play tag, hide and seek, and their favorite game “Mr. Fox what time is it”. When the weather does not permit us to go outside we have free play inside the gymnasium. We are able to use tricycles, play basketball, and build using pipes and blocks. We also do a unit on how to keep our bodies healthy. This is where we get the parents involved so they can learn what they can do at home with their children. We send home a chart that gives them opportunities to be physically active and they turn this chart in at the end of the unit. Then as a class we discuss what we did with our families. To promote intellectual activities I provide numerous materials that they can use and I rotate them occasionally so they are not bored with it. For example, in our art center the children are exposed to many different types of materials. They have various types of paper and paints as well as recycled material that they can use to sculpt their own art. Our class is also exposed to music of many different cultures. We play music throughout the day and one day a week we have a music class outside of our classroom. As a preschool teacher I keep up with what is new and promote these findings during our learning experiences. I provide many avenues for children to find who they are and respect who others are.…
Another physical activity that I would support in my preschool classroom is Simon says. This activity appeals to them very well. The children get very serious when the play Simon says. And when I don’t say Simon says they actually were listening. They enjoy this game/activity because we are all learning the importance of language and respect. This matter also deals with socialization. When I explain to them that if I don’t say “Simon says” then you have to sit down, this game gets very challenging for them. “Duck, duck GOOSE!” is actually one of my children’s favorite game to play when we are indoors. This game gives them so much energy and excitement that it just fills the entire classroom with that happy energy. I even sit down and participate and play along with them. Whenever I play this game with them, I always have a big smile on my face.…
The differences are seen in how each developmental phase interacts and responds within each health assessment pattern. The toddler and preschool child need more structure and routine, whether it’s brushing their teeth, eating or bedtime rituals. School-aged children take the values and learned behaviors of being a toddler and build upon them as they move toward building their own self-concept and sense of identity. There are similarities as the children strive for autonomy and the ability to express themselves verbally. In order to optimize the child’s physical development during early childhood, parents should provide the child with numerous opportunities to be active. The parent should monitor the amount of time that the child spends watching TV shows or movies or playing games on the parent’s phone. Rather than sending a bored child to watch a movie the parent could take the child outside and play soccer or basketball. Not only would this enhance the child’s gross motor skills (which involve large muscle groups) but it would provide the child with exercise as well. Preschool children should engage in at least two hours of physical activity per day, divided into one hour of unstructured free play and one hour of structured activity. For a structured activity caregivers could do a puzzle with the child or put together a Lego theme set. By the end of early childhood the child’s fine motor skills have most likely improved to the point where the child could write their own name, build objects with blocks, and pour from a pitcher without spilling. To further the advancement of the child’s fine motor skills parents could allow the child to do tasks on their own such as pouring their own glass of water.
