The Black Lives Matter Movement
The phrase going around preaching that “All Live Matter” was created as a response to the Black Lives Matter movement after it acquired attention in the United States and from the rest of the world. In the overall scale of things this “all lives matter” movement completely degrades the purpose of the Black Lives Matter movement. We see through media the representation of black lives being targeted unnecessarily and of course all lives do matter but white people are not subjected to the same abuse as black people. If you don't see or understand that you are most definitely part of the problem.

The Black Lives Matter movement was formed in 2012 by Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullers and Opal Tometi when a young, unarmed black male, Trayvon Martin

They are nearly 5 times more likely to be killed than any other racial or age group. An associate professor, Jack Glaser at Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy said that details such as location, individual behaviour and dress shape who gets stopped by the police and when. Glaser also stated “The way the process works is if you take two equivalent people - a young white man and a young black man who are dressed identically, the black man would still have a greater chance of being stopped and its because his race is a basis of suspicion and it interacts with those other qualities in a way that makes them all seem more suspicious because it biases the judgement of everything”. Even though shootings fell to 35% per year in the 2000s and extrajudicial killings have decreased by 70% over the last 40 to 50 years, the risk is still unreasonably higher for black Americans than white Americans to be a target. Black people are also killed nearly 3 times as much as latinos and just over 4 times as much as asians. In 2015 alone, police killed over 1000 people. This shows that there is still a sad racial issue in …show more content…

This event caught my attention and many others around the world. Shortly before Michael’s passing, he had stolen packages of cigarillos from a nearby convenience store with his friend, Dorian Johnson. Wilson was informed of a robbery and shortly after encountered both males walking down a street. They fled the scene but Brown then stopped, turned around with his arms up facing Wilson and then moved forward. Wilson fired a total of 12 bullets at Brown’s front with the exception of two hitting his right arm. The last bullet being fatal resulting in his death. Michael Brown was unarmed. My point is that this young man was unarmed and caused a minor uproar which in no way must of resulted in his death. This occurrence was a clear act of racism and Brown’s death is just one of thousands that have been taken by the hands of white police

Brown’s friend who was with him claimed that Darren Wilson yelled at the boys to stop and used foul language. He then said that Wilson pulled out his gun and began to shoot at the same time he warned the boys. At that point they were both scared for their life and ran, but Brown got down and put his hands in the air. Even though Brown surrendered, Wilson continued to shoot and hit Brown six times. Wilson had to right to shoot Brown because he was unarmed and not a threat. Brown was an African American and Wilson was white. We must not rule out the fact that this could have been an act of racism and an issue of justice. It was not necessary for Wilson to shoot Brown especially because he was…

People have been justifiably calling out the more questionable methods of the Black Lives Matter and Antifa movement. Black Lives Matter is an organization which likes to proclaim that it is working against racism peacefully, even though its website encourages violence. For example on their website “We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are…

Another reason is that it doesn't make sense for the black community to be against the police force when there are police officers that are indeed black. Blue lives matter also has reason not to be against Black lives matter according to Michael Harriot, “There is a widespread belief that the Black Lives Matter movement is anti-police. They point to the Dallas ambush shooting where five cops were killed, even though Micah Johnson was found to have participated in many other organizations when police investigated his past and searched his online history—even the chief of the Dallas Police said they could find no affiliation with Black Lives Matter” (Harriot, 2017). In this particular case, there was no connection with the people that killed the police officers to black lives matter, just like there appears to be no connection with the other cases that have involved police officers being shot.…

In 2011 twelve year old boy named Tamir Rice was shot by police for playing with a bebe gun outside. A girl named Aiyana Jones was shot by a policeman while she was sleeping on the couch during a home raid by police. There are many more of these cases, one thing they have in common, they were all black and all cases were ruled as not guilty. 41 black boys have been reported shot unarmed since 1980 to 2012, the average age of blacks killed by police was 30 the average age of whites was 35 ( deadly force in black and white Gabrielson). The black lives matter group no matter how old the case is still trying to get justice for the family. Trayvon’s family got higher than a million. There's a 49 percent chance of a black person getting shot by police than a white person and at least half the cases remain not guilty. At least fourteen police officers got away with murdering an unarmed black teenage alone in the year 2015 ( chuffington post…

At Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana there has been protests about the Black Lives Matter movement. The Black Lives Matter movement “is a chapter-based national organization working for the validity of Black life” (Haki). The Black Lives Matter movement began in 2012. This movement is important because it is about equality. Equality is important because every life matters. The point of the Black Lives Matter movement is to show that one life does not matter more than another and that black lives just need some help and attention from everyone. So, to solve this controversy I am proposing raising awareness and small weekly meetings about the Black Lives Matter movement.…

When you crack open a history textbook, be it about Rome, the United States, or China, it will inform you about all the wonderful, revolutionary, and patriotic moments that have occurred in the lifespan of that country. But every country also has its fair share of darker deeds, such as unjust actions against its citizens, unjust actions like discrimination based on skin color. And that is exactly the kind of treatment the Black Lives Movement is fighting against.…
