How would you feel if a child family member was sold for sex in order to survive?
I personally would feel annoyed at why he/she would sell themselves when there are a lot of more other suitable jobs out there. Child prostitution is no different really compared to the millions of people who sleep around every day, you get paid so that’s one upside to it. But on the other hand i would feel concerned because child prostitution can lead to sexually transmitted diseases and possibly even homicide. I think that child prostitution should be looked upon as there are too many children having to defend for themselves in order to survive. We need to sort out this problem and get rid of the pimps who are selling these poor children to men in order for us to focus on the children and getting them the help they need without them worrying about getting hurt by their pimps or the men they last had sexual contact with.
Most youngsters sell themselves for the financial gain their earnings can be stolen off them, taken by their pimp or it’s what keeps them alive, fed and clothed. However prostituting can be deadly and life shattering for the exploited children. Rape, murder, sexually transmitted diseases, abuse, getting involved with crimes/ being a victim of a crime, risk getting caught and put into jail, emotional instability, shame, embarrassment, looked down upon in society. There has been a shift in philosophy from treating youth involved in prostitution as criminals to identifying them as victims in need of protection. There is considerable debate in the social science literature about the factors contributing to a child’s decision to sell themselves. There now appears to be considerable disjuncture between recent policies and programs to address the youth sex trade secure a safe environment for children. If you stop the demand there should be nothing to supply its not one thing to fix but many. We need to combat poverty,
