The Book Trailer: The Westing Game
After reading The Westing Game I decided it would make for a very intriguing book trailer because it is a mystery. Most people can get easily caught up in the drama of a mystery because by nature people are normally very curious. I knew that by making a book trailer I could give the viewer some key details, then leave them with questions in order to get them more interested in reading the book. The point of making a trailer for anything is to persuade the viewer to either watch a certain movie or read a certain book. The ending of The Westing Game is very unexpected and I think it is more satisfying because the reader doesn’t see it coming. My trailer for The Westing Game provides the viewer with a basic understanding of what the book is …show more content…
I knew that I needed to grab the viewer’s attention quickly to get them interested but I had to do so carefully, without giving away any spoilers. I wanted to give the viewer some basic knowledge from the book to start off with, in order for them to understand the groundwork of the story. Because The Westing Game is a mystery there is some key information that is necessary for the viewer to know in order for any future references to make sense. I wanted to make sure that I didn’t give too much information from the beginning of the book because then I would lose the viewer’s interest. I wanted to keep it fairly simple because a trailer is not meant to be a summary. After laying the groundwork for the viewer I quickly escalated the tone of the trailer by mentioning how Sam Westing was found dead in his mansion. This is a turning point in the book because without it there would be no Westing Game. If I had failed to mention this in my trailer it would have been impossible to intrigue the viewer or explain any future details about the story. One of the challenges of creating my trailer was trying to explain how the game worked without giving too much details. I knew I needed to include it in my trailer but I didn’t want to confuse the viewer. Once I was able to explain the basic concept of the game I knew that I was finished with the hook for the trailer. My goal was to leave the

The events he describes extensively seem extremely long and could even cause the reader to lose interest in the reading. For example, one of the main points in the plot was when two twin boys, Sam and Eric, thought they saw the beast on top of the mountain on page ninety-eight. The boys were running back to the others to tell them about how they saw the beast. The pair ran back and when they got there, all of the boys were sleeping in shelters. Sam and Eric woke up Ralph to tell him about their horrific experience with the beast that they thought they saw. This event in the plot is supposed to be suspenseful and it is supposed to be a major point in the rising action. Instead, as the reader is reading as fast as Sam and Eric are running, they are then slowed by the author’s extensive use of imagery that retards the reader's’ excitement for the upcoming events. William Golding uses imagery to describe the sky and the surrounding for a long, unattractive paragraph on page ninety-nine. This can make the reader lose interest because in this sudden revelation of the beast, the flow of the story is broken. It can be seen as broken up because the extensive use of imagery in the description seems to be unrelated to the main event happening, therefore making it too…

Though Money: The Unauthorized Biography & Ready Player One are vastly different books written for completely different audiences, major economic themes shine through in both pieces of literature. Money: The Unauthorized Biography is a non-fiction piece which focuses on the development of currency as we know it today, & the debunking of common inaccuracies in that history which many believe to be true. The novel, Ready Player One, is fiction in its entirety & doesn’t focus on economic themes. The novel follows the story of a teenage boy living in a not far off dystopian future, which inadvertently relays economic issues prevalent in its time period.…

“The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell is an intriguing work of fiction that effortlessly combines both aspects of literary and commercial fiction. Connell was able to write a piece that successfully combines fast-paced action as well as upholding literary merit. Not only did Connell write this story with an exciting and adventurous component, he also managed to convey a deeper meaning within the story by allowing his readers to be pulled into the excitement of the story, while also giving them an insight to a darker, more primitive side of human beings. He creatively depicts a unique setting in which the main character has nothing to fear but mankind itself. Connell not only generates…

“Don't judge a book by its cover!” your mom tells you for the third time this week. It's not your fault that the new kid at school is shy and distant. They're weird , not you--right? Well that’s not always the case, and your misperceptions could cause you to become enemies. The same concept applies in Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, but the outcome is devastating. Ender Wiggin, a six year old genius, battled everyday with the conflict brought on by his hateful brother, Peter, who did everything in his power to weaken Ender. The tension heightened when Ender remained the only one of three children to be monitored by the government. Because of this monitoring, the government took notice of his analytical mind and intellect. Colonel Graff, a government official, then asked him to join an elite program called Battle School where young boys and girls were trained to fight the Buggers (aliens). Though he was under pressure with memories of his brother's cruelty looming, he still managed to pass his training. Eventually, his success as a Commander unknowingly and sadly resulted in the death of an entire civilization. Orson Scott Card directly illustrates through the casting of “good” and “evil” characters the importance of communication. Ender and Peter, Valentine, and the Buggers are perfect illustrations of how the lack of communication can cause failure among human relationships.…

As Donnie Vincent once said, "The truth is... I'm always saddened when I kill an animal. It's not remorse I feel. I know why I'm a hunter. It's out of respect." But not always do the roles stay the same, sometimes, the tides turn and the hunted become the hunters. This story is so thought provoking, because of its classic theme that anyone can become the hunted. When one looks at “Hungry Like The Wolf” by duran duran, one can see that this theme is still pertinent to today’s world because even in music they show that anyone can become the hunted. One example is when in the duran duran song, they say “Straddle the line, in discord and rhyme, I’m on the hunt I’m after you.” The use of mood, suspense and setting are expertly crafted to support the theme of The Most Dangerous Game”.…
