The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Analysis
Confidence is key. Ever heard that term before? Confidence might unlock the answer to conflict. Confidence might inspire one to solve conflict in a proud way. People might rely on confidence to keep them going when it comes to a conflict, if their confidence disappears then they have a lesser chance at solving the conflict. The confidence one has when it comes to a problem can affect the way that conflict is solved.

The text The Boy in the Striped Pajamas shows how confidence can really affect how you solve conflict. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is about two young boys, one is Jewish and in a concentration camp, named Shmuel, and the other is not, named Bruno. When the two meet they become friends. The Lieutenant doesn't scare Bruno, therefore he is trying to sound confident that any conflict between Shmuel and the lieutenant can be solved quickly and easily. The text explains "'I wouldn’t mind him,' said Bruno, trying to sound braver than he really was. 'This isn’t his house, it’s mine"(Boyne 21) and "but then he realized that he couldn’t; because he was feeling just as terrified himself"(Boyne 47). To add on to this the text also says "Shmuel shook his head..." and "'No, sir. He gave it to me,' said Shmuel, tears welling up in his eyes as he threw a sideways glance at Bruno. 'He’s my friend,' he added"(Boyne 45). When Bruno is confident in himself, it is before he actually sees the lieutenant.     How can two best friends simultaneously be enemies? John Boyne answers this question in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. He writes a tale about a Nazi commandant’s son who befriends another boy. They soon become best friends. Everyday Bruno the commandant’s son, visits Shmuel, a concentration camp inmate. Since Bruno’s father works for Hitler and Shmuel and his family are trapped by Hitler, this makes things difficult on the boys. Instead of being able to play with each other, like Bruno wants, they are separated by a fence.
