The Boy In The Striped Pajamas By John Boyne

Friendship shapes the world, without friendship how would people connect with others? A boy named Bruno had three best friends in his little town in Germany, he cared for them miraculously as if they were the only people he had, but now everything is going to change for Bruno. Bruno is in a novel called The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne. In the novel, Bruno has to move away from his friends to a home that's gated up from all sides called Auschwitz and is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. The house is in a location where there is no other house except Bruno’s, which also means that Bruno would not be able to make a new relationship with anybody but his family, which could make him feel lonely. Although, Bruno finds a way to sneak out of the house, and he finds this boy behind a place surrounded by electric wires, but this boy who Bruno is seeking a friendship with may not turn out the way he expects. This boy’s name is Shmuel, and Shmuel is Jewish, and Bruno is German, and Germans, at the time, discriminate Jewish. Their friendship was not supposed to be, but Bruno does not exactly know that, and at the same time he is trying to stay innocent, after all, he shouldn't be leaving the house, and especially making friends anyways. This novel does present loneliness, discrimination, and innocence throughout the book, but friendship seems to be the very most important theme of Bruno’s life in Auschwitz.
Although friendship is the most prevalent throughout the novel, innocence was also important because Bruno had to keep his friendship secret due to Shmuel’s Jewish race, keeping his friendship secret would also make him look innocent, but he isn't really innocent he is just acting like it.
