The Bracero Program
The group research project was more difficult than anticipated. The reason for that was because my group members and I had such different schedules that it was hard to find a time where we could all meet up. Though it was difficult I enjoyed it very much because of all the additional things that I learned about the Bracero Program and the new things that I learned about the Visa Program and specifically the H-2A program. There were many informative sites which made finding information on the topic less difficult, which was a benefit since we could not meet up as much and work together. When it came to problems the only thing that really came up for the group was just being together which was quickly resolved after a while. The first thing that was thought of when we were talking …show more content…

A reason that I personally liked the idea of talking about H-2A Visa compared to the others is because there are many people in the Yakima Valley that have it. Agriculture is big in Washington so speaking about this Visa would be nice because it would give the class an idea of the type of Visa that these workers use. When we found what this visa was we could tie it to the Bracero program because they were similar in a way. We thought of it as the bracero program with a different name. The group expected to learn a lot about these programs because we knew that there was an abundant of information that could be found online. I especially thought that I would learn a lot when it came to the H-2A program because I knew nothing specifically about it before. I had an idea that many of the people that had the H-2A came from Mexico but when I looked at the numbers it was crazy to see that it was over 90 percent of Mexican people. visa came from Mexico The Bracero program and the H-2A program had similar faults from what I learned. I would have thought that by now the people who come and work

I have to say I honestly felt hesitant to do the partner project in the beginning due to my bad experiences working in groups in the past. Thankfully this experience was a total success, which has changed my outlook on group projects. Hannah was a joy to work with not only because she is a great writer but also because she is a great person. I had never actually written a full length research paper with another individual, and I think this also allowed me to be somewhat hesitant to the idea. Hannah and myself decided to talk about the fascinating story of “The Ministers Black Veil”, and we were able to construct an amazing research paper from the text. Nathaniel Hawthorne allows his readers to become so involved in his writing, which inhibits…

When our group was randomly assigned, by chance, three of our members were already working closely together on an intense project in another class. Luckily, they had already had positive relationships and myself and the other new member fit right in. The result was a significant kick-start, and we were able to maintain the momentum through to completion. Overall our experience working together as group was a positive one, with great group dynamics, and we were happy to be able to work together again.…

Everyone look to their left; now look to your right. Chances are one of the students besides you is an immigrant to the Unites States. In 2008, according to the New York Times there were 11.9 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. Although several laws exist to control the illegal immigration problem in the United States, it is still a growing concern in several states. On April. 23, 2010, the toughest bill on illegal immigration was passed in the state of Arizona. This is a particular sensitive matter to me as well as many other Americans because I too immigrated to the United States of America when I was three years old. Controversy over the bills constitutional standing has led to a lawsuit by the United States Justice Department questioning the bill and its fairness. Currently there are at least nine states backing the Arizona Bill, and according to the CBS and New York Times poll 51% of people are saying the bill is taking the right approach. The Bracero Program was a temporary contract labor program initiated in 1942 by the United States and Mexico. Although the railroad program ended in 1945, after World War II the agricultural program continued until 1964. Originally, the program was designed to protect the illegal migrant workers against the exploitation by American farmers. However, it was criticized and was viewed as a failure from the humanitarian point of view.…

The Bracero Program was a system put in place from 1942 to 1964 to recruit Mexican farm laborers during World War II to supplement a temporary work force in the United States. In hopes of making enough money to buy land and create more lucrative futures, many Mexican workers left their families to work in the Bracero Program; unfortunately the U.S. was the only country that truly benefited from the work of the Braceros and continues to strive from the work of these millions of guest workers. The U.S. employers took advantage of the Braceros from the selection process through their entire working experience. This program was extremely costly for the Braceros, and they as well as their families went into large amount of debt. It did not help the economy of Mexico, nor did it help the people. Despite the best efforts of the Mexican workers, they have yet to reach their goals of a better life.…

The Bracero Program completely changed the way American s viewed migrant Mexicans. Implemented in 1942, because of the Mexican Farm Labor Agreement between the United States and Mexico, the Bracero Program stood as a way for Mexicans to gain employment in the United States, typically through agricultural jobs. Those who participated were assured adequate living conditions and thirty cents per hour minimum wage. It allowed for the agricultural industry to grow substantially, as Mexicans worked for cheaper wages than their American counterparts. The laborers typically lived in small labor camps close to or on the properties they worked. Furthermore, the program stands as the most extensive foreign labor program in United States history.…

There was conflict when group members did not show up at group members ans we felt that not everybody was contributing to their best abilities. One group member did not even bother to have a text book and I as a leader made sure she got a copy of the case. It was in the group’s best interest that she be given a copy. Then we met for the first time not everybody had read the case and it was apparent and frustrating. Then we were rushed for time and we met the professor and only two out of five could meet the professor. Then we cracked the case and not all members were present at every meeting. It was hard to work as a team. Then I decided to host two meetings at home and the last one brought us closer together since we shared some snacks and personal…

The paper's foundation lies on the fact that Mexican American students struggle in U.S. schools and the current system set up does not address these students needs. It argues that the educators of today need to come together and change the current system to take into account the significant faults that the system has. The first two paragraphs introduce the issue and provide necessary background information for the reader. The paper then delves into the changes that need to happen building upon the common hardships that these students have through a study on the College Assistance Migrant Program, conducted by Professor of Education, Reynaldo Reyes. The introductory paragraphs lead smoothly into the first point that I make in my paper, transitioning with "these students don't start out with the same learning environment, causing them to struggle. Very few programs available for students address the common hardships that these students have"(2). The smooth transitions help connect the paragraphs, resulting in a fluid paper. Even the texts analyzed in the study connect with each other by supporting the common goal of improving Mexican American education. The complexity of the task of improving Mexican American education is highlighted by the way the body paragraphs analyze the school contexts of their education as well as, the goals of current programs…
