The Bully By Roger Dean Kiser
“The Bully”, Roger Dean Kiser Has someone ever told you, “You do not forgive because you are weak, you forgive because you are strong enough to understand that people make mistakes.” This is how the story became to be. The Bully, by Roger Dean Kiser is a story about a bully, Tony, and the bully victim, Roger, meeting many years later in a small town restaurant. Roger the bullied victim is what shaped the story into how it is by being the strong, forgiving, and caring person he is. Without him there would be no story to tell. Roger is one important character in this story because, of the traits that he holds. First, Roger is a strong person, physically and emotionally. Being bullied since middle school by tony it affected him emotionally …show more content…
Even through all the pain and suffering Tony has put him through he still cared about him. Roger went and was able to help Tony and his wife out with the car which showed his thoughtfulness. This was important to the story because is showed that you shouldn’t treat people the way they treated you. People can change and even though they were not Tony was not the nicest before Roger still help him. This action was a great way to put the story all together. Although the way they ended the story was a bit devious there are some predictions I made about the future. In the end Roger gave tony a card and said to call him sometime, in the future Tony did just that. He called Roger and thy met up to catch up on what has been going on and became good friends. Also it could end very badly, Tony could blame Roger for him being in a wheel chair and have a huge fight. The would blame each other for everything and never see each other again. Out of these two suggestions I would prefer the first one because I love one happy ending, In conclusion, Roger was a strong, forgiving and caring person because he was bullied. Being bullied from Tony is what made him to the person he is. That is how Roger learned to be respectful without getting respect back. This story showed many lessons, I wonder how the rest of the story would’ve

In Lord of the Flies Roger demonstrates his own power in Chapter 4, and experiences powers pushing back against him. In the novel the narrator states “Roger led the way straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones” (60). Roger has lots of power to his character, the littl’uns never questioned him tearing down their castles. He walked straight through and tore everything down and scattered their rocks. In some parts of the book Roger use his power over the island in a negative way. In the beginning of the chapter “Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to throw them. Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dares not throw” (62). Roger has power…

Civilization still has a little bit of control over Roger's mind and sanity. He seems to feel as if he is still surrounded by rules, laws, consequences and adults. Adults are the ones that make the rules and ensure they are enforced. In chapter four "Roger grabbed a handful of stones and began to throw them. Yet there was a space around Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dare not throw. Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life. Round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law. Roger's arm was conditioned by a civilization that knew nothing of him and was in ruins." This symbolizes civilization…

Golding shows that things were starting to wrong early in chapter four when Roger was with Maurice, “Roger led the way straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones” (Golding 84). Roger seemed to be leading Maurice to do the wrong thing. There was no need to kick the littluns sandcastles down or to start any trouble but he did and he leads another one of his friends. This shows that Roger uses his power for things that aren't good and leads people to do bad things…

And the conch is a magnificent symbol if you were to see it as the world of civilization as we know it. The conch calls all the meetings, it give you the power to speak, and in most cases it is a way to get respect. However it is not the most important symbol, because of the fact that it does not relay Goldings main message. And if it doesn’t wholly relay the message it can’t be that important of a symbol. A symbol should make the reader believe that its value in the story and in symbolism is pivotal and necessary to the story because without it, the story would not turn out the way it was. the only truly important symbol that would change the whole book is that of that of Roger. Roger is the amenity of all Golding’s messages, so how could one look over such an important character, almost as if his existence on the island was next to…

    2. He picked up a stone, aimed, and threw it at Henry – threw it to miss. He isn’t used to being violent because round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law. Roger’s arm was conditioned by a civilization that knew nothing of him and was in ruins. He is described as being a mean black hair boy with a gloomy face and made what had seemed at first an unsociable remoteness into something forbidding. He is using the metaphor to symbolize Roger and evil.…

Scarface - Tony’s rise to power is a notable rags-to-riches story, only that it involves drugs and dead bodies. The dark and criminalized American Dream was a strongly implemented backbone of the story, wherein an immigrant comes to the US to find his fortune and future. Tony eventually succeeds for a moment, but when his judgement and pure unluckiness started to overwhelm him, he became a cautionary tale of excesses and greed…

Starting off, one thing that both stories are similar on is that Roger and Squeaky learn to become more approachable through other people around them. They both learn through their peers, and whether they like the person or not, they still are taught a very important theme of life. An example of this in Raymond’s Run is when Squeaky thinks to herself, “And she nods to congratulate me and then she smiles. And I smile. We stand there with this big smile of respect between us. It’s about as real a smile as girls can do for each other, considering we don’t practice real smiling every day.” This is demonstrating how Squeaky learns to become more approachable towards others, and by doing this she becomes a person that others want to be around. Even though she was never friends with Gretchen, it shows that it doesn’t matter who gives you the new state of mind, and a lesson is a lesson.…
