Task 1.1
In this task i have been asked to pick two companies (one profit making and one non profit making) the profit making business i have chosen is ASDA and the non profit making business i have chosen is British heart foundation.
ASDA’s purpose as a business is to sell goods to people and aim is to be the best retailer in the UK as stated in their mission statement which is “to be the uks best retailer and exceeds customer needs”. ASDA is a public limited company, which is also known as a PLC. An American retailing company called WAL-MART owns ASDA. Its shareholders own the company and this causes the ownership to constantly change, as the shares are constantly bought and sold. Most of the companies' shareholders are generally, old aged pensioners, banks and insurance companies.
British heart foundations purpose as a business is to raise money for research into heart disease by selling clothes or other items that are donated from people. British heart foundation’s missoion statement is: ‘if you or someone close to you has a heart condition or if you are keen to look after your own health, we’re here to help, whether you’re after information, need support, we are here.’ The Charity was founded in 1961 by a group of medical professionals who were concerned more or less the increasing death rate from cardiovascular disease.
