The C Rule In Schools
The C Rule There are a lot of schools that wouldn’t mind at all about having the C Rule going into effect. Then there is the schools that would like to use the C Rule but their sports are what gets the school's name out and some of the students that play sport or are in extracurricular activities have trouble getting good grades no matter how hard they are trying. Schools that are pushing to get the C Rule included in their requirements are generally the ones that don’t have any sports that do good in their favor so having students maintaining a C average is a good way to get good scores and get their school noticed for academics. Webb City not only gets recognized for academics but has many sports that do well year after year, there is no

The academic requirement for the no pass/no play rule states that if a student receives a grade below 70 in any academic class at the end of the grading period may not participate in any extracurricular activities for at least three school weeks. But even if a student fails academically or drops out of school, they should at least have hope that they are good at something. People DO make a living in music, art, athletics, and many skills…

However, there are rules and stipulations to who can compete in these events, to ensure that students retain their good academic standing, and making sure that the events stay fair. One of these rules in particular is the “no pass, no play” rule, which essentially states that if a student is not passing a class, by attaining a grade of 70 or higher, then they cannot participate in school sponsored extracurricular activities. The “no pass, no play” rule has affected the academic career of many students since its implementation over 30 years ago. In 1984, a reform of the school system was held in Texas.…

Eligibility is another issue that athletic directors may face. Determining academic eligibility can also be problematic with credits transferring from private schools and different school districts, also to give consideration to age limits. In the state of South Carolina “athletes can compete as a high school players from 7th grade up to 12th grade and if you turn 20 years of age and have completed 4 years of varsity sports then you become ineligible” (G. Herbert, personal communication October 15, 2014). There is also a minimum grade point average that the state requires and in some schools have separate standards that are higher than the state required minimums mostly in private schools. Another issue of debate in South Carolina is determining whether student-athletes that transfer from schools in the same school district that becomes eligible immediately. That issue has been…

“School should be about learning, not sports”. Kids now a days love to play sports, but don’t like to learn. Learning, and get an education this is a very important thing in life you need it to have a good job so that you can have a family and support them. So I feel in school you must have good grades in order to play any type of sport, and if you do not then you should not be playing. A couple reasons I feel like this is for starters kids pay more attention to sports then they do in class. This is not how this should be. Kids should love to learn something new every day at school, but in some school that’s not the case. Kids need to learn.…

“The NCCA should stop treating athletic departments as ticket offices attached to universities like tumors and instead treat them as legitimate academic branches”(Jenkins). I agree with this statement because NCAA universities don’t look deeply into their athletic programs. Athletics in college is more then an extracurricular it is part of the college business just like the academics are. Athletics generate more money for the school and also brings out the best in the community. Also high performing athletes who are projected to play on the professional level is what also bring more money because many people enjoy watching them play. Therefore, they should make sports majors available.…

Good thing. That’s because it pushes kids in school to have good grades. Especially, the only way to play in sports, is to have good grades. If you don’t have passing grades, you can’t be involved in any sports. So, coaches tell their athletes to be a student athlete.…

Many student athletes thrive to become professional players of that sport. Almost all of them graduate from college with low grade averages. So, as a result of that, they attempt to become professional and the do not succeed. Now they can not go back to school and get good grades to then be able to get a well-paying job. Student athletes should have to maintain a certain GPA to participate in sports activities because it motivates them, it gives them a financial benefit and most coaches look for good grades.…

For example, if there are big games coming up and the athlete can’t afford to miss the game who knows, maybe the teacher would go above and beyond to make sure the student’s grades are good enough to remain eligible. It seems crazy but things like this have happened before. Other students feel the college football players also get special treatment adds to this common mindset. Other students that have to bust their butts in the classroom to get good grades and if they still struggle while not getting that extra aid towards their grade, it's just not fair at all. This isn't the case with all college football players as some balance school and football well…

One is philosophical. It's not the model of intercollegiate athletics. Second, it's impractical. They're basically talking, I think, about paying football players. I don't think that's going to stand the test of a court challenge from students who play basketball or students who play baseball or students in the tennis program"(O'Toole etal. 2). With unfairness to other students, they would file lawsuits because of failure to receive the same type of incentives from the…

High school sports and academics affect each other. Amanda Ripley argues that academics are suffering in “The Case Against High School Sports.” However, in “High School Sports Aren’t Killing Academics” Daniel Bowen and Colin Hitt argue that Ripley is wrong and sports raise test scores. Athletics distract players from learning, and education budgets continue to get smaller.…
