Growing up can have its challenges that require much adaptation and perseverance. One of Buck’s challenges growing up was being kidnapped and taken from his home where he grew up. Buck also had to learn the Law of Club and Fang, he learned to obey and respect those who are more powerful than him. He also had to adapt to working with other dogs and using a lot of teamwork to get through the harsh winters of the Klondike Gold Rush.
Unlike Buck, my dad had to persevere when his sister and niece died in a car wreck. One of the things he had to realize is that they were gone and they weren’t going to come back. In The Call of the Wild, Buck was torn from his loving and peaceful life and forced into hatred and regret as he got to know how life in the wild was. In contrast to Buck, my dad had to persevere and adapt to life knowing his sister wasn’t there with him. I think the topic of perseverance is kind of a downer and sad. That’s because in Buck’s situation he had to persevere through his problems otherwise he’d end up dying.
