The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe

I was at the carnival when i met up with my friend Montresor. I was actually quite drunk at the time whenever I got some exciting news that made me euphoric. He had bought a pipe of amontillado. Amontillado is a vintage wine and is very rare. A few years back I had last tasted the very valuable wine. I told him to take me to the wine.

Montresor thought that us walking to the catacombs would be terrible for my health. There was nitre, moss, and a lot more. As we were heading down into the catacombs, I started having trouble breathing. The nitre and mold were getting more and more problem causing because it was becoming a bigger deal.

When we arrived to the catacombs, I remember seeing

Montresor, the main protagonist, appears as a dangerous and brutal psychopath “I given Fortunato cause to doubt my good will” and “he did not perceive that my smile now was at the thought of his immolation.” (Poe 144). As time is passing by in the story, Montresor reveals how obsessive and insecure he is. Montresor decides to get revenge and kill Fortunato just for a mere insult, and only because of his weak and unconfident personality. The insult and the other thousand injures mention before could have been just part of Montresor’s insecure nature. Furthermore, Fortunato does not expect that Montresor is seeking revenge or sees him as a threat. Besides, Montresor plays a great role of a caring friend until the end of the story. Montresor even refers to Fortunato in several occasions as his friends or “My poor friend ” (Poe 147) making Fortunato doubts of…

“Cask of amontillado” is short story written by Edger Alan Poe. There are two main characters in this story. We don’t actually know who is the protagonist and who is antagonist. In the starting it looks like fortunato is the main person about which the story is about But, in measure he looks unfamiliar than Montresor to me, maybe montresor is telling us this story and he didn’t give much information of his enemy(fortunate).Fortunato is addicted to wine. "Luchresi cannot tell Amontillado from Sherry." Being fully drunkard in the carnival, montresor very cunningly pump fortunato’s excitement to make his carnival celebration more enjoyable by telling him to drink ammontilado and fortunato’s avarice for ammontilado made him agree with montresor.…

“The Cask of Amontillado” is a spectacular horror story by author Edgar Allan Poe, cleverly plotted and well crafted. In a prodigious show of mischief, Poe brings forth Fortunato, an epicure of superior wines, an enjoyer of festivities, and a very inebriated man. The night of Carnival, this jaunty fellow has lost all abstemiousness to the powerful grasp of intoxication. Perhaps had he not been so indulgent in his choice of vintage, he would have avoided falling prey to an even sorrier fate, namely, that which Mr. Poe chooses for him: “He had on a tight-fitting parti-striped dress, and his head was surmounted by the conical cap and bells.”[1] Behold the attire he wears to the grave. In his bumbling ignorance, Fortunato is blind to his forthcoming quietus. Poe, a master puppeteer, leads his marionette further and further into…

There are many underlying meanings to the title of this story “The Cask Of Amontillado” By Edgar Allan Poe. First off, Amontillado is an alcoholic beverage, closely related with Sherry, and in the way it is treated by the characters, it is obviously a beverage that is either rare or very delectable. In the story, Montresor mentions he has “a pipe of what passes for Amontillado” (p 133) In the context pipe is used in, it has been used to mean cask, which is a barrel of sorts that is used to hold alcohol, and to age it. It can also be tied into the fact that while Fortunato goes looking for a cask of Amontillado, he finds a casket of death, the casket, or coffin literally being the walls of bone. As mentioned, Amontillado, the drink means something different to each character. To Fortunato, it is very valuable, and when he finds it, it will make him happy.…
