The first omission in Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado” is the mystery of the setting. Because of the vagueness of where the carnival is, readers have to imagine where the setting is taking place. The readers have to inference if the carnival is taken place in an unnamed European city. Ammary inferences that the setting, “could either be the Italian Carnival in Venice or the French Mardi Gras”. Also, one trick of investigating the place is by depicting the names of the characters, “Montresor is a French name; Foruanto is an Italian name” (Ammary).
