After that he looks for Phoebe in the museum where he realizes that every time he has come, he has changed, but the museum has remained the same from the first time. Sally comes late and they both go to the show. The show is performed by exceptional actors which for some reason annoys Holden. In the intermission Sally flirts with a previous acquaintance. After that they both go to Radio City to skate. When they finished skating Holden starts talking all crazy to her about school, and life it self. After that he says that they should get married and run away far so that they can escape society. After Sally tells him he is wrong he gets angry, insults her and then leaves.

While waiting for Carl, he watches a movie about war which makes him decide that he would never able to join the army. When Luce comes, Holden bombards him with questions about sex. He is also left to ponder about psychoanalysis and see if that can help him. After a little while Luce also leaves. After getting very drunk, he goes to Central Park to see if the ducks are still there and on the way there he breaks Phoebe’s record. Starting to feel the cold, he wonders whether he will die of pneumonia and whether people will attend and how his funeral will be. Finally he decides that he wants to talk to Phoebe and decides to go home early.

Phoebe says that he doesn’t like anything and proves it. He also thinks about his friend who had committed suicide. After that he realizes that the only thing he wants to be is a catcher in the rye. After this he decides to call up his English teacher so that he can stay at their place. He decides to leave but he has to borrow some money from Phoebe and this makes him cry.
Chapter 24 Notes:
$ Holden arrives at the Antonelli’s house right after they had a party so everything is dirty

$ Antonilli starts to question Holden about what had happened at Pencey
$ Holden starts to complain again and this time it is about digression and Antonilli responds and asks him whether it is good to digress or not

Summary:
Holden arrives at a very dirty Antonilli apartment and both Mr and Mrs are drunk and not looking their best. Antonilli starts to question Holden about what had happened at Pencey and whether or not he was feeling proper. Then he starts to give him advice about life and that if he didn’t shape up he was about to have a terrible fall. He tells him that the first step to fixing everything is to start going to school and applying himself in everything so that he can go in the right direction. Holden is awakened by Antonilli stroking his head, so he gets scared leaves the apartment. He also says that this has happened to him before.
Chapter 25-26 Notes:

$ the next day as he walks up and down 5th avenue, he starts to feel that he will disappear every time he crosses a street

Summary:
He goes to Grand Station and spends the night there. While he is walking he feels as if he will disappear and prays to Allie that nothing happens to him and that he protects him while he walks. So he decides that he is going to go west and get away from everything. He decides to marry a mute and deaf girl so that he doesn’t have to communicate in any way. He wants to tell Phoebe all of this so he goes to her school to give her a note to tell her where to meet him. On the walls he sees that someone wrote “F**k you” and this angers him incredibly. So he goes to the museum of art and sees the same words once again. Once he meets Phoebe he finds out that she wants to go with him to escape society and he tells her that she cannot come with him. This angers both of them because they start to argue. Finally Holden says that he won’t go and they both go to the zoo albeit reluctantly. When Phoebe goes on the carousel, Holden feels an unexpected surge of happiness of which he had never felt before. Then Holden talks about his new home where he is with a psychoanalyst who is examining him. Holden is going to a new school and it is yet to find out whether or not he will apply himself. Also he wishes that he hadn’t told so many people about his story. He says that you should never tell anyone anything because if you do then you start missing everybody.
