In the Ted Talk video, Cameron Russell mentions about the time she and her friend got pulled over by a policeman and how all she said was “I'm sorry officer” and then she got out of the ticket. She said that she got out of it because of this thing call “special privilege”. She said special privilege isn't based off who you are, it’s based off how you look. For instance, a black male walks into a retail store with his hands in his pockets. As he is looking for clothes clerks in the store seem to follow him. For every item he picks up that seem to catch his eyes the clerks seem to focus in harder or even walk towards him asking "hey sir are you finding everything okay" and he would answer back " Yes I am okay thank you". While the store clerks talk amongst themselves on their walkie talkie one would say “watch the man in the blue jeans and white shirt". The man eventually heard them and exited the store. Not only did they lose a sale they may have also had lost a customer. Another example is Ciara a black female that owns a black Toyota Sudan is caught speeding through a yellow light. The cop sitting at the stop sign across the street turns his sirens on to pull her over the car. The Caucasian officer gets out the police car and approaches the car asking for a license and registration. Ciara gets frustrated and causes a fuss because she thinks she is getting pullover because she is black. In reality, she is not right and, in fact, she is clearly wrong. She was clearly speeding and now trying to play the minority
