On December 7, 1941 the United States Pacific Fleet and Pearl Harbor in Hawaii were attacked by Japanese aircraft. There was no warning for the attack, and it caused many deaths of U.S citizens. A pivotal event in American History was the bombing of Pearl Harbor which was a cause of the U.S not shipping supplies, Japan pursuing a policy which affected the U.S, and Japan becoming a threat to the economy of the U.S.
The U.S, along with Britain and the Netherlands, placed and embargo on Japan. This meant that the United States would not send supplies to the Japanese. When Japan attacked Manchuria it sent a sign to the United States that they should place an embargo on their country. As Japan invaded some of East Asia’s islands, the United States began to worry. Japan’s idea was that they should attack the U.S, and it would provide them territory that they would rule and control. They invaded China, wanting to conquer many other parts of the country and wanting to get more territories. Japan wanted to do this to get more oil and other materials to benefit them in their industries. The United States was growing more in their economy and there expansion while Japan was not. They suspected that the U.S would try and go into war with them if they kept overtaking countries in the pacific area without the U.S approval. The United States would have to go to war with Japan if they didn’t stop invading and over taking other countries. Japan thought that they had chance to win the war against the U.S.
If the U.S embargo did not end Japan would have to get oil from other parts like South East Asia, creating more conflicts. Japan was forced to take out the army they had in Chin, but they did not follow the war rules and violated the rights that they had to follow.
