The episode’s plot centers around Peter’s son, Chris, and Jerome’s daughter, Pam. Chris and Pam develop an interest in one another and start a blossoming romance. However, the plot thickens when Jerome discovers their relationship and sternly disapproves of it because he doesn’t “want Pam dating a white boy” (“Baby Got Black” 9:10-9:12). This particular scene sheds light on a scenario that is not frequently seen. In most cases, it is the white person that is racist toward the black person because that is what we are accustomed to as a society. However, it is not the case in this scenario and “Jerome turns out to be the racist one” (Thurm). After hearing Jerome’s remarks, Peter goes on to say, “Jerome, you’re a racist,” to which Jerome responds, “Black people can’t be racist” (“Baby Got Black” 9:12-9:22). This is significant because as a society, we put a great amount of emphasis on how white people are the superior race and black people are the inferior minority because that is how it is laid out in our history. There is no doubt that this was once a valid ideology but we have departed from such thinkings so having this mindset in the present time is flawed. It is highly problematic because it has come to a point where we may overlook or even permit a black person to be racist because they have been oppressed for centuries…

They begin having internal conflicts between themselves. “Father, Mother and Margo still can’t get used to the chiming of the Westertoren clock, which tells us the time every quarter of an hour. Not me, I liked it from the start; it sounds so reassuring, especially at night”. Anne becomes relieved by the chiming of the outside world. She finds companionship with inanimate objects such as her diary and the clock.”We’re so fortunate here, away from the turmoil. We wouldn’t have to give a moment’s thought to all this suffering if it weren’t for the fact that we’re so worried about those we hold dear, whom we can no longer help. I feel wicked sleeping in a warm bed, while somewhere out there my dearest friends are dropping from exhaustion or being knocked to the ground”. Anne is both guilty an grateful for the lack for suffering from others in the outside world.”Added to this misery there is another, but of a more personal nature, and it pales in comparison to all of the suffering I’ve just told you about. Still, I can’t help telling you that lately I’ve begun to feel deserted. I am surrounded by too great a void. I never used to give it much thought, since my mind was filled with my friends and having a good time. Now I think either about unhappy things or about myself. It’s taken a while, but I’ve finally realized that Father, no matter how kind he may be, can’t take the place of my former world”. Anne realized the loneliness she feels with out the company of her family, she feels alone. This is how the Secret Annex Occupants feel isolation.…

Isolation is a dangerous thing. It can push us into thinking very pessimistically, which can lead us into doing harmful actions. As Miguel de Unamuno once said, “isolation is the worst possible counselor.” In Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper the narrator is portrayed as psychotic as a result of solidarity; this shows us the dangerous effects of complete isolation.…

Have you ever felt so distant, so isolated from everything and everyone around you? Isolation can be both physical and emotional. Physical isolation can be defined as antisocial or not socially contacting with people. Emotional isolation comes from the inside of a person. They could have issues going on with themselves or in their lives and they feel as if there is no one to turn to, so they choose to keep to themselves. Isolation is a common theme experienced in “Into The Wild” by the main character, Christopher McCandless.…
