What is most interesting about this story is actually its lack of metaphorism. Only in the beginning is there actually a reference to a metaphysical metaphoric object. The rest of the story is only about the physical properties of the metaphor and its affect physical effects on the populace of the community. In that moment all life's problems stand still, and when you get up from bed and start getting ready for the day you have to worry about all the problems. When the narrator said "The object was not yet visible during the day," instead of object as a physical thing. I think he meant object as an emotional thing; problems aren't visible during the day as much as they are in dreams.
