In the 1800’s with many new advances were coming along, with the expansion of the U.S. men usually tended to crops and farm life while women took care of children, and the house. Shifting over into the 1900’s these two remained very similar. Men would usually go to work but this time it was joining the military. When the World War’s came around and many of our population’s men went over seas, women took charge. With the absence of the men, factories and production plants were left with very little help. Women stepped up and took their jobs and helped provide for their families. When the wars ended and our country was resupplied with our men, the idea of women working continued. And we continue to see that idea today. Our modern society we don’t necessarily have all women staying home tending to families needs and only men going to work. Both genders do whatever part is needed for their particular family to do its best. The gender roles of masculinity and femininity have shifted dramatically and now blend together rather than be two separate ideas.
There are many different topics that femininity and masculinity can be broken down into, and one of the most obvious is appearance. Typically in todays standards we expect women to look absolutely gorgeous and it seems as if we’ve let the appearance of males slide, like it doesn’t matter what a man looks like. Waking up in the mornings getting ready for a days work, the male only needs to be well groomed with a button down-shirt and some slacks, in most cases.
