The Character Analysis Of Crossed, By Ally Condie

“Letters?’ I ask. Then I see what he means. I thought I carved ripples. Or waves. Or scales. But what it really looks like is the letter C, over and over again. I put the rock on the ground to mark another place where we’ve both been. ‘Do you ever teach anyone?’ he asks. ‘Only one,’ I say.” Crossed is an extraordinary book by Ally Condie. The book is about a young girl named Cassia who escapes from the Society to try and find Ky. Ky is a young man who has lost hope in ever finding Cassia again. However,when they reunite Cassia seems more involved in finding the truth than she is interested in Ky. Cassia seems to have one choice throughout the book; Ky or the truth. There are multiple motivations behind one action. In the beginning of Crossed, Cassia decides on one very important thing; to escape the only home she’s ever known. In the story, she describes how her family helped her to try and find Ky. “ They
“ With Xander I could have a good family, a good job, be loved, be happy… I would be able to do the things I always thought I would. But with Ky, I do things I never thought I could.” (pg. 305) She chose Ky. However, when deciding to choose to join the rising or b with Ky, sh chooses the rising. “ there are other things i’m not strong enough to go without, and I intend to fight for them.”(pg. 307) She chose the rising not only for Ky, but for the truth. To fight for the truth.
There are multiple motivations behind one action. In the book this message is clear. She always goes between Ky and the truth. She made all of her decisions on Ky; her love for someone so strong that it could be blinding. However, she also made all of her decisions on the truth; so captivating that she would die for it. Ally Condie is a magnificent writer who made this apparent throughout the story. It began subtly at first but became obvious as time dragged
